Minneapolis City Council President: Ability to Call Police Over Robbery ‘Comes From a Place of Privilege’

The Minneapolis city council voted to abolish the Minneapolis police department.

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Bender who people will call if someone robbed their home. President Lisa Bender said the ability to call the police in that case “comes from a place of privilege.”

She says for those of us who the system actually works for we “need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to already live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harms done.”

So let me get this straight. Having stuff that others want makes it okay for someone to rob my home because I have privileges? The privilege of what?

I worked hard to buy that stuff. It wasn’t handed to me on a silver platter because I’m white.
