U. Minnesota Cutting Ties With Minneapolis Police but Students Say it’s Not Enough
“Student groups from the University of Minnesota are calling for the complete abolition of any police presence on campus”
There has already been anti-police sentiment on college campuses, and this situation is playing right into activists’ hands.
Campus Reform reports:
University of Minnesota to cut ties with Minneapolis Police Department, but students say it’s not enough
The University of Minnesota announced that the university will no longer use services from the Minneapolis Police Department, in a statement issued by President Joan Gabel. This announcement comes after the tragic death of George Floyd, an African American killed under the weight of a white Minneapolis police officer who ignored Floyd’s pleas as he repeatedly said “I can’t breathe.”
According to Gabel’s announcement, the directive will do two things. First, the University of Minnesota will, “no longer contract with the Minneapolis Police Department for any additional law enforcement support needed for large events, such as football games, concerts, and ceremonies.” In addition, the University of Minnesota will no longer use the department for “specialized services [that are] needed for University events, such as K-9 Explosive detection units.”
However, Gabel clarified that the University of Minnesota will still work with the Minneapolis Police Department regarding joint patrols and investigations that “directly enhance the safety of our community.” Gabel adds, “I do not have the words to fully express my pain and anger and I know that many in our community share those feelings, but also fear their safety.”
Since Floyd’s death, a series of riots have broken out in Minneapolis, damaging local businesses and communities.
Student groups from the University of Minnesota are calling for the complete abolition of any police presence on campus, and have planned a ‘Get Cops Off Our Campus’ rally to “demand an end to racist, unaccountable policing on our campus.” Students for a Democratic Society at UMN, UMN Climate Strike, and the Muslim Student Association are hosting the event.

City police need to move out of these places which do not appreciate them. They should move in mass, leaving the city bare of police protection.
I hope the faculty and students all realize that they will now have to provide their own personal protection.
Parents of students should consider having their students complete concealed weapons training over the summer so they will be suitably equipped to protect themselves by the fall semester. Either that, or they will have to pay protection money to Antifa to keep the thugs from assaulting them.

These groups only speak for the campus comrades. They want chaos as it is something to be exploited.
I have a feeling they will be doing online classes for a very, very, long time. Burned out classrooms aren’t conducive to learning.
Hopefully after all this, most of the MPD and SPPD just plain quit, so nobody, on campus or off, has police protection. Let the progressives who run the city worry about getting their brains blown out the second they step out their front doors.
After Freddy Gray, Baltimore went from 2900 police to 2300, with most of those leaving being those on the beat, including detectives. Homicides are up over 50% and the population accepts this because their hatred of cops is so fanatical that it is worth losing hundreds, if not thousands (over enough years) additional people just to give the finger to the cops.
It would be more direct if they just start wearing signs that say rob me, rape me, blow me up.
A Somali cop shot a white woman. An Hispanic cop shot a black man. A white cop knelt on a black man. Maybe what we have here is a crappy police department.
Minneapolis is a long time Democrat run city. Democrat mayors do not hire competent Police Chiefs. They hire politicians who do as they are told.
