Another Hillary fail: No, Jared Kushner did not say he might postpone the November election

Another Hillary fail: No, Jared Kushner did not say he might postpone the November election

In fact, he said just the opposite

https://youtu.be/Xgef8szAyqw

Wednesday, Hillary Clinton responded to a Times article which inadequately cited a conversation Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Trump, had with Time correspondent, Brian Bennett.

If only Hillary had read what Kushner actually said.

Which was as follows (transcript from Reason):

“It’s not my decision to make,” said Kushner. Which is exactly the opposite of what Hillary couldn’t “believe she had to write.”

So, not to be all “Well Ackchyually,” but Hillary is actually, literally, dead wrong. Again.

The spawn of the Devil, this despicable piece of human refuse is the epitome of all that is evil.

And oh, but such a large family he has sired. It seems we keep discovering more of their cousins every day. Problem is nobody is doing anything about them.

Save a little of this “love” for Bennett. Does he not know that the day of the election is set by the Constitution, tired old product of dead white guys as it is, “.. first Tuesday after the first Monday in November…”

And maybe that could have been Kushner’s answer, too.

healthguyfsu in reply to amatuerwrangler. | May 14, 2020 at 1:29 am

It certainly could have been. However, Kushner answered 100% correct that it is not his place to decide or enforce.

No, it is not. Nothing prevents Congress from postponing it, though not for very long. Which is why while Kushner did not bring the issue up, he couldn’t rule it out. How could he? He is not Congress and has no control over what it might do.

At the latest, though, the election would have to be held by the end of the year, because Congress’s term ends on Jan 3. If no election were held by then there would be no House, and only 67 senators (35 D and 32 R). And if a president were not elected by Jan 20, since there would be no speaker, the senate’s president pro tempore would take over until there was a president. Right now that would be Chuck Grassley, but the reduced senate’s D majority would presumably replace him with DiFi, since she would be its oldest member.

Hmmm. Would states be allowed to appoint Senators to fill the vacancies, and would it be in time to affect the President pro tem selection?

Milhouse in reply to malclave. | May 14, 2020 at 11:01 am

That’s a very good point. Thank you for raising it. The 17th amendment says that the temporary replacement provision kicks in “When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the senate”. Normally we think of this clause in terms of casual vacancies, since vacancies due to a senator’s term having expired would automatically have been replaced by the last election, but the text doesn’t say so. It says “vacancies”, so that would include any vacancy.

So yes, you’re quite right, the 33 vacancies arising from the cancellation of the 2020 elections (should Congress decide to do so) would trigger this clause, and each vacancy could be filled by whatever provision that state’s legislature has made. And every time the majority shifted the presidency pro tem would switch between Grassley and DiFi.

The way I read it, Election Day is set by Congress. Meaning it CAN be changed, but it’s not up to Kushner (or the President).

“The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.”

I thought the election date was set by Congress in the 1840’s after the invention of the telegraph. Prior to that states had about a one month window for holding their elections, from early November to the beginning of December.

What a tiresome cretin.

I’ve always been reluctant to call people wicked or evil (or treasonous). But I’ve been studying Psalms and Isaiah and have concluded I have been far too lenient. There are a lot of people out there who are genuinely wicked and evil, and Hillary is right there in their midst – possibly leading the pack though there are a lot of contenders.

    My favorite:
I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back until
    they were destroyed. I crushed them so that they could not rise;
    they fell beneath my feet.
    Psalm 18:37

Speaking of clinton human waste – and obama:

I like this relevant portion of Psalm 35:

4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them.

6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them.

7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall

After watching obama get away with so much lawlessness for 8 years, I have no doubt hillary would have gone on a crime spree the likes of which we can’t even fathom. Imagine being hillary these days. So close to being the historic glass ceiling breaker, all the way down to chardonnay soaked two time loser. It’s probably a good thing she can’t shut up and go away actually, at least for now. She’s a great example of the quintessential corrupt politician, but angrier and even more dishonest.

Viruses are tiny things, not technically even living organisms, and there’s certainly no room in one for such complex things as self-respect. When you’re a virus you’ll infect anything. Even the Wicked Witch of Westchester.
