New York College Students Putting Spring Break on Hold Over Coronavirus

“NYU, Columbia and Cornell universities are urging students not to take off for foreign destinations this month.”

I imagine there are students all over the country who are doing the same.

The New York Post reports:

Coronavirus puts NY college students’ spring break trips on hold

The coronavirus has college kids bracing for Spring brake.

NYU, Columbia and Cornell universities are urging students not to take off for foreign destinations this month. Cancun, the Bahamas, and Cabo are popular student destinations.

Syracuse University is advising against both international and domestic air travel “to avoid the possibility that your freedom of movement may become restricted.”

NYU Student Health Associate VP Dr. Carlo Ciotoli advised, “We know that spring break, which begins soon, is often a time for travel. I would urge you to reconsider any personal international travel as well. In the current environment, it is entirely conceivable that you may end up in a quarantined zone.”

Ironically, NYU sophomores David Zou and Jason Jiang who are from China, where the coronavirus outbreak started, said their families back home were fine and going about their business, but they were afraid to travel.

The duo planned to explore Atlanta or Charleston on spring break, which starts March 16, but ditched the trip.

“We wanted to go to get out of the city, go to a small town and relax,” Zou, 19, said.

They said they were not leaving town until the outbreak is over.
