Media, Democrats Rush to Declare ‘Wuhan Coronavirus’ Term Racist – Except It’s Not

Here we are in the midst of a Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in America, and everyone is pulling together as a team to combat and beat this thing, right?

Wrong.

The mainstream media and Democrats have chosen to politicize the heck out of the virus instead, a tactic that will only generate more division, confusion, and panic.

Case in point, the rush to declare the use of the term “Wuhan virus” racist instead of referring to it as the coronavirus. They chose to do this even though the strain of coronavirus we’re dealing with stems directly from Wuhan, China:

But almost six weeks on, she is among the hundreds of students still stranded in the quarantined city [of Wuhan], desperate to return home — long after classmates from other nations were airlifted away from the coronavirus outbreak’s ground zero.[…]More than 20 countries have evacuated their citizens from Wuhan, where COVID-19 was first identified late last year.

On top of that, it’s relatively common to name a virus/disease after where it originated from:

All of a sudden, however, it’s “disgusting,” “astoundingly gross” and “racist” to note the Wuhan virus originates from China, said Democrats like Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, and journalists like NBC News correspondent David Gura:

Remember, not that long ago it was members of the mainstream media who referred to the virus as the “Wuhan virus:”

Dr. Eugene Wu, who fancies himself as a leader of “the Resistance,” also declared the use of the term Wuhan virus to describe the Wuhan virus as racist:

But yet a month and a half ago, Wu sang a different tune:

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who is self-quarantining after interaction with someone at the CPAC conference last month with someone diagnosed with the Wuhan virus, noticed the media/left’s odd switch on calling it the “Wuhan virus” and tweeted about it:

It’s almost as though public figures like Hayes and Wu who have done a complete flip flop on referring to the virus as the Wuhan virus have received talking points from the Chinese government or something:

French newspaper La Croix reported Monday that the “relentless Chinese propaganda machine” has launched an effort to deny the Chinese origin of the coronavirus. “In the eyes of the Chinese Communist Party, that China could have been singled out as the source of the coronavirus is unacceptable,” the paper said. “Everything that links China to the virus must be questioned and disappear from all history books.”[…]The French paper’s reporting comports with public statements from Chinese officials, including remarks from Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian that, “It is yet undetermined where the virus originated.”The report comes after Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) warned in an op-ed that the Chinese, Russians, and Iranians were waging disinformation campaigns blaming America for the virus.

It appears some in the media and on the left are playing right along:

Why is it so important to refer to the Wuhan virus by its’ proper name?

Not only that, but there are whistleblowers in China who risked their lives to inform people about the disease. One of them even died from it last month. Their efforts should not be in vain.
