Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) decided not to vote for additional witnesses and documents in the impeachment trial.
She lashed out at the House Democrats over the articles of impeachment and even took a swipe at sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) question to Chief Justice John Roberts.
The Democrats needed at least four Republican senators to get the witness motion passed. With Murkowski’s decision they will only have 49 votes.
Murkowski made it known last week that she did not appreciate the House Democrats pushing through the articles of impeachment and expected the Senate to do their job.
She rightfully called them out and said their “rushed and flawed” articles became a reason why she thought about calling more witnesses “to cure the shortcomings of its process.”
But it was “the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout” that led her to vote no on witnesses. Because of this, she believes “there will be no fair trial in the Senate” and that “the continuation of this process will change anything.”
