Earlier this week, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) received demands from presidential hopefuls Sen. Cory Booker and Julián Castro to change its requirements for the January debate.
With the old qualifications, Booker and Castro cannot participate. But it looks like that will not change since the DNC increased the January debate qualifications.

In order to qualify for the next debate on Jan. 14, candidates must earn at least 5 percent in four qualifying polls released between Nov. 14 and Jan. 10, or 7 percent in two polls conducted in one of the four early-voting states on the nominating calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina.—Additionally, candidates must receive donations from 225,000 individuals, up from 200,000 for Thursday’s debate, with a minimum of 1,000 donors in at least 20 states.The qualification deadline is Jan. 10 — four days before the debate, hosted by CNN and The Des Moines Register at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Each poll must be sponsored by one of the following 16 entities or pairs of entities (“Qualifying Poll Sponsors”): Associated Press; ABC News/Washington Post; CBS News/YouGov; CNN; Des Moines Register; Fox News; Monmouth University; National Public Radio; NBC News/Wall Street Journal; NBC News/Marist; New York Times; Nevada Independent/Mellman Group; Quinnipiac University; University of New Hampshire; USA Today/Suffolk University; Winthrop University. For individual entities that are included only in Qualifying Poll Sponsor pairs but are not listed individually, independent polling by such individual entities or polling conducted in new partnerships with such individual entities shall not meet the Qualifying Poll Criteria. The DNC reserves the right to add a Nevada-specific poll sponsor to this list in the near future.
With the new requirements, only five candidates qualify: former Vice President Joe Biden, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg has hit the polling requirement. However, he is funding his own campaign and not accepting donations. Therefore, he cannot achieve the donor threshold.
Entrepreneur Andrew Yang claimed he “cleared the raised donor threshold.” He only has the poll requirement in one of the four required polls.
Billionaire Tom Steyer has the numbers in two of the four polls but has not said anything about the 225,000 donors.
