Environmental Group at Columbia U. Demands School Declare a ‘Climate Emergency’

The left thinks if they say climate change is an emergency enough times, people will agree with them.

Environmental group demands Columbia U. declare a ‘climate emergency’
The Columbia University chapter of a group dubbed the Sunrise Movement has called on the university president to declare a “climate emergency” by December 1.
The Columbia Spectator says the organization “aims to stop climate change” (can the climate stop from being changed?) and wants President Lee Bollinger to sign off on the UN Environment’s Global Climate Emergency letter.
The Sunrise Movement petition (which actually states a deadline of November 1) notes that “nearly 200 colleges and universities around the world have signed the UN Environment’s Global Climate Emergency letter, declaring that the Climate Crisis is an existential threat worthy of urgent action.”
It points out that schools in “France, Cameroon, China, Honduras, Nigeria, [and] Colombia” are participating.

Sunrise’s Elizabeth Love says her group wants Columbia to implement “education on climate and sustainability throughout campus, research climate in an action-oriented way, and become carbon neutral by 2050.”

Such a waste of the opportunity to learn!
Coincidentally a lot of the kids who flock to this sort of campus activity are the ones who find those more conventional learning opportunities especially difficult or unsuccessful.
This is what you get when you allow the Left to control the educational system: brainwashed, indoctrinated, know-nothing fools. And they are the future of America. Makes one want to cry…
They have to be allowed to say things whether smart or stupid. I just criticized NYU for a suppression of speech, and the college can’t be deciding what’s smart or stupid, so they have to be allowed to talk, to vent, to show their immaturity.
I’d suggest the university implement an emergency “save the planet” plan including things like:
– close all parking lots and ban all cars on campus
– deactivate all hot water heaters
– stop serving any meat products on campus, only locally sourced vegetables
– remove all power-consuming vending machines
– cancel all non-essential activities including sports and theatrical events
– decommission air-conditioning and heating systems except in cases above 90 or below 32.
– ban non-essential electronic devices, including those in dorm rooms
you know, simple stuff. if this is an emergency, let’s take it seriously.
