Duquesne University is a Catholic school, so some people weren’t down with this.

Gender neutral fashion show draws officials’ attention at Duquesne UniversityDid student organizers of a gender neutral fashion show at Duquesne University go too far in promoting the event with ads showing a man wearing a dress — images that apparently riled some on and beyond the Catholic campus?Or did Duquesne’s decision to brush back against those students, in effect, put religious mission before university principles of free expression?Duquesne and student organizers Thursday appeared at odds over an event that participants said was well attended and received, but may have offended others. The annual event was held last year on Oct. 17, according to the university’s website.Officials on both sides of the issue Thursday weighed in on the event and fallout from last year’s show that surfaced in recent days.According to the student newspaper, The Duquesne Duke, the event co-hosted by the Gender Forum and Department of Women and Gender Studies (WGS), last year featured a male-presenting runway model sporting a dress.“It wasn’t until 11 months later — and while the organization was preparing for this year’s event — that higher administration officials in the university reported that due to complaints they had received about the 2018 posters, they would require that this year’s show refrain from using gender neutral language and photographs like the one on last year’s flyer,” the newspaper reported.
