Okay, it’s hard to think of a more ridiculous argument than this, yet the Democrats have concocted it for public consumption.
Their point goes something like this: Republicans are forcing them to pursue impeachment, against their (the Dems’) better judgment, and . . . um, it’s not good. Unless it is. (But it’s not.)

And a growing number of GOP lawmakers are all but daring Democratic leaders to launch the process while it remains unpopular with voters — a strategy not overlooked by top Democrats vowing to resist the bait.“They would love to drive this to an impeachment because they think it will be their political salvation,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a Judiciary Committee member, said of Republicans.“If we get there, we will get there on our own time and our own way. We’re not going to be baited into it,” Raskin said.
“Goaded” and “baited”? Are you kidding me? Democrats have been calling for Trump’s impeachment since before he even took office. No one is “goading” or “baiting” them, they latched on to the Russia-collusion fantasy, and now that’s collapsed, they have no idea what to do next.
Their face-saving “plan” appears to be to blame Republicans for the Democrats making one of the dumbest moves in the history of American politics. Having been “goaded” and “baited” into proceeding with impeachment proceedings, the House will attempt to blame the GOP when their effort fails (as it will).
The idea is to pin all blame on Republicans: the Dems are “forced” to pursue impeachment by dastardly goading and baiting Republicans, the Dems fail because of Republicans in either/both the House and the Senate, and therefore, Republicans are evil. Worse, they are evil goaders and baiters who out-smarted Democrats and forced their hand with all their evil goading and baiting.
I don’t believe that Nancy Pelosi thinks this is a good plan, but let’s face it, she’s not adverse to slathering layers of brightly-hued lipstick on pigs if it suits the political moment. Stay tuned.
