UMass Opens New ‘Business Innovation Hub’ With Focus on Diversity
“Inclusion and diversity in every respect”
Diversity is the focus of virtually everything in higher ed now. It’s the unofficial religion.
Mass Live reports:
Diversity emphasized at opening of $62M UMass Business Innovation Hub
Diversity and inclusiveness was a recurring theme during the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at the newest addition to the University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management.
The $62 million, 70,000-square-foot Business Innovation Hub opened for use in January. UMass said it nearly doubles the size of the Isenberg School, which enrolls 5,000 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.
“Inclusion and diversity in every respect” of the learning process is key to a modern business education, said Nefertiti Walker, Isenberg associate dean and associate professor of sport management.
The school’s interim dean, Thomas P. Moliterno, said, Isenberg projects “a commitment to inclusion in all we do.” He said that contributes to creating “a dignified, respectful community.”
Katarina Maric, who will graduate next month with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and operations management, was the student speaker. She praised the new building, which features lots of open space. “It’s perfect,” Maric said.
