USA Today/Suffolk Poll: Half of Americans Agree Trump is a Victim of a Witch Hunt

A new USA Today/Suffolk Poll shows that half of Americans have come to side with President Donald Trump about the Russia investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The poll also found that 54% of independents agreed with Trump and 42% disagreed. The majority of those called identified themselves as moderates (36.6%).

So overall, 50% of the respondents believe Trump is a victim of a witch hunt while 47% said he is not. 3% had no opinion.

From USA Today:

Still, the president’s success in persuading fully half of the electorate that he’s been subjected to unprecedented scrutiny is notable, says David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk Political Research Center.”Even among people who said they had ‘some’ trust in the Mueller investigation, half agreed with President Trump’s witch-hunt allegation,” he said.”Trump, he gets badgered every single day,” says Robert Lynch, 62, of Selden, New York, a Republican who describes himself as a “100 percent” supporter of the president. Mueller’s report is “going to say no collusion, absolutely none,” he predicts.Annette Lantos Tillemann-Dick, 66, an innkeeper from Denver and a Democrat, disagrees, saying evidence of collusion by Trump’s campaign is already obvious. “You don’t need a report to see it. It’s in our face.”

Despite this result, 51.7% of the people said they have little of no trust in Trump’s denial that collusion happened between his campaign and Russia. Only 13% said they had a little trust in him and 30.4% said they have a lot of trust in his declaration.

A question about Mueller and the investigation had tighter results. Only 35.5% of the people said they have little or no trust in either one while 26.6% said a little trust and 28% said a lot of trust.

Trump gloated over the results on Twitter.

The latter part of the poll had questions about impeachment. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has brushed aside impeachment talk even though the outspoken progressive wing of her party has shouted for it to happen.

58% of the respondents said her statements have no impact on them when it comes to impeachment. However, most agreed with her because 61.7% said that the House should not consider impeaching Trump.

I also noticed that the majority of the people trusted Fox News over other MSM outlets.

Hmmm…maybe the DNC should reconsider their ban on Fox News holding a debate? After all, the majority of the respondents consider themselves moderates.
