USA Today/Suffolk Poll: Half of Americans Agree Trump is a Victim of a Witch Hunt

A majority also don’t think the House should seek impeachment.

A new USA Today/Suffolk Poll shows that half of Americans have come to side with President Donald Trump about the Russia investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The poll also found that 54% of independents agreed with Trump and 42% disagreed. The majority of those called identified themselves as moderates (36.6%).

So overall, 50% of the respondents believe Trump is a victim of a witch hunt while 47% said he is not. 3% had no opinion.

From USA Today:

Still, the president’s success in persuading fully half of the electorate that he’s been subjected to unprecedented scrutiny is notable, says David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk Political Research Center.

“Even among people who said they had ‘some’ trust in the Mueller investigation, half agreed with President Trump’s witch-hunt allegation,” he said.

“Trump, he gets badgered every single day,” says Robert Lynch, 62, of Selden, New York, a Republican who describes himself as a “100 percent” supporter of the president. Mueller’s report is “going to say no collusion, absolutely none,” he predicts.

Annette Lantos Tillemann-Dick, 66, an innkeeper from Denver and a Democrat, disagrees, saying evidence of collusion by Trump’s campaign is already obvious. “You don’t need a report to see it. It’s in our face.”

Despite this result, 51.7% of the people said they have little of no trust in Trump’s denial that collusion happened between his campaign and Russia. Only 13% said they had a little trust in him and 30.4% said they have a lot of trust in his declaration.

A question about Mueller and the investigation had tighter results. Only 35.5% of the people said they have little or no trust in either one while 26.6% said a little trust and 28% said a lot of trust.

Trump gloated over the results on Twitter.

The latter part of the poll had questions about impeachment. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has brushed aside impeachment talk even though the outspoken progressive wing of her party has shouted for it to happen.

58% of the respondents said her statements have no impact on them when it comes to impeachment. However, most agreed with her because 61.7% said that the House should not consider impeaching Trump.

I also noticed that the majority of the people trusted Fox News over other MSM outlets.

Hmmm…maybe the DNC should reconsider their ban on Fox News holding a debate? After all, the majority of the respondents consider themselves moderates.

Does anyone not troll pollsters?

Technically, a warlock hunt.

Question 46 responses are interesting. Where do they log those who watch none of the MSM outlets? It would be wrong to put them in the “undecided” category, in my opinion. I learned, long ago, whether for polling or for accounting categories, when your “other” group was the biggest or nearly so, you need to go back to ground zero and take a new look at things. Undecided is too broad to be of use. You can land there when you trust none, and don’t care to pick the one you distrust the least, or you trust them all and have no favorite. Also interesting that the traditional alphabet places totaled roughly 15% of the sample. And that it was necessary to include Comedy Central as a news outlet.

The important thing about people agreeing that it’s a witch hunt (which is really too kind a term for it) is that it neutralizes a lot of what the left will say going into the next election.

They’ll say things like, “He’s an unprecedented danger to democracy! We have to get rid of him now!” And a large chunk of the voters will roll their eyes and reply, “Yeah. Right. We’ve heard that one before. Now tell us the one about the Russians!”

And Trump’s re-election chances improve accordingly.

From what I see so far:
-10-20% of the people have swallowed this ‘Russian collusion’ hook, line, and sinker. They are the Dem base, and they’re going to throw a fit if/when the Mueller report finds zip in that regard.
-20% or so of the people think Trump did it somehow, maybe with magic or psychic powers, and they’ll probably wander off to the next Dem conspiracy theory by the next election. Perhaps the magic word ’emollients’ will catch them, or they’ll vote Bernie. NeverTrumpers fit in here.
-About 50 percent of the people don’t care. The market is stable, they have a job, things are not blowing up, and they’re fine with it.
-20% or so of the people are tired of the way Republicans traditionally go to Washington to grovel and get beat up, and like the way Trump is standing up for them, although they really can’t specificity exact times and places.
-5% or so are the Crawl Over Broken Glass Trump voters, who perhaps should put down Twitter and take a deep breath once in a while. Seriously, people. Chill.

If the Dems go off on an impeachment tear like their far left wing demands, the middle will shudder in horror and head for Trump while the Trump voters will only strengthen their positions. We could see another 49 state landslide. Their only hope is to act sane, and they can’t even do that.

A majority didn’t think Obamacare was a good idea either. They did it anyway.

At this point the goal IS NOT to actually get rid of Trump.

The goal is to send a message to anybody else considering running for President as a Republican:

Be a good little surrender monkey for us or we will destroy your life.

Polls are a crapola way to gather data. Fr’instance, I’d answer “not” to this one—

50% of the respondents believe Trump is a victim of a witch hunt while 47% said he is not.

—not because the D’rats aren’t on a witch hunt; they are. I’d say “not” because DJT’s not a victim. The hunt has to succeed for him to be a victim, and all indications are that that’s not gonna happen.

Never hang your hat on a polsters peg. Thats said, democrats really want to recapture the 2-5 percent of Midwestern voters who flipped and voted Trump.

Meanwhile, other political types are trying to figure out how to remove Trump from election ballots…. to save democracy…. by denying democracy to the Serfs.
