Rep. James Clyburn Compares Trump’s Rise to Hitler: “Greatest Threats to Democracy of My Lifetime”

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) compared President Donald Trump to Hitler in a recent interview with NBC. It’s amazing that Democrats can say things like this and it goes completely unchallenged.

Mike Memoli writes at NBC News:

Rep. Clyburn calls Trump family ‘greatest threats to democracy in my lifetime’The third-ranking Democrat in the House on Tuesday called President Donald Trump and his family “the greatest threats to democracy of my lifetime,” saying Congress needed to do more to respond to the president’s attempts to undermine American institutions.Responding to Trump’s renewed attacks on the late Sen. John McCain, Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., went so far as to resurface his previous comparison of the president’s actions to those of Hitler. In an interview with NBC News, Clyburn noted that he had once been asked if he has ever seen a toxic political climate like today’s, and that while he hadn’t, he has studied ones like it.”Adolf Hitler was elected chancellor of Germany. And he went about the business of discrediting institutions to the point that people bought into” it,” he said. “Nobody would have believed it now. But swastikas hung in churches throughout Germany. We had better be very careful.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) also went in on this. CNN reports:

Clyburn’s colleague, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, made his comments at a Tuesday night town hall in New York in which he compared Trump’s rhetoric toward immigrants to propaganda against Jews.”You’ve heard the President and the administration say that immigrants are thieves, that they bring in drugs, that they’re responsible for lots of crime, that they’re — a crisis at our border, they’re bringing in drugs and crime,” said Nadler, who represents New York.He continued: “This is the same type of propaganda that we heard in the 1920s and World War I against Jews. ‘Jews are Bolsheviks. Jews are thieves. Jews are violent’ — that was the propaganda. And, we were that against the Irish early. Now, we’re hearing it against this generation’s immigrants — and it’s just as false now.”

Here’s a clip of Clyburn’s remarks:

So Clyburn worries that Trump is discrediting institutions? Is he aware that members of his party are currently demanding the abolishment of the Electoral College, considering packing the U.S. Supreme Court, and questioning the legitimacy of the United States Senate?

Would this be the same James Clyburn who defended noted anti-Semite Ilhan Omar? Yes it would.

Philip Klein of the Washington Examiner:

Jim Clyburn’s defense: Ilhan Omar’s experience is ‘more personal’ than Jews who had parents in the HolocaustAs Democrats line up to defend Rep. Ilhan Omar and come up with her excuses for her anti-Semitism, House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., tried to minimize her comments by arguing that she escaped violence in Somalia, so her experience was “more personal” than Jews who merely had parents survive the Holocaust. The Hill reports, “Clyburn came to Omar’s defense Wednesday, lamenting that many of the media reports surrounding the recent controversy have omitted mentioning that Omar, who was born in Somalia, had to flee the country to escape violence and spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to the United States.”The article quotes Clyburn as saying, “There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my parents are Holocaust survivors.’ ‘My parents did this.’ It’s more personal with her … I’ve talked to her, and I can tell you she is living through a lot of pain.”

The fact that Clyburn gets no push back from the media for comments like these is one of the reasons Trump calls the media an enemy. They earn that charge on a near daily basis.
