As New Year’s opened in San Diego, 150 Central American caravan migrants attempted to illegally cross the border during the cover of night and holiday festivities.
They were successfully repelled by the US Border Patrol.
More than a dozen migrants were apprehended after 150 migrants tried to climb the border fence in San Diego, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.The incident happened New Year’s Eve at an unspecified time.According to the agency, 45 migrants turned back due to CBP’s increased presence at the border before another group of migrants started throwing rocks at agents.Border Patrol agents added that the group tried to lift toddler-sized children over the concertina wire, but agents were unable to help the children because too many rocks were being thrown.Agents used pepper spray upwind and tear gas of the migrants to try and deter them from throwing rocks.CBP says the measures weren’t aimed at the migrants and “successfully suppressed the rock throwers causing them to flee the area.”Most of the migrants returned to Mexico through a hole under the fence and by climbing back over the fence.
Despite the press attempting to weaponize the compassion of Americans against their own best interests, these is a great deal of support for the Border Patrol’s actions.
Meanwhile, another migrant caravan with as many as 15,000 participants is preparing to leave Honduras on January 15.
“They say they are even bigger and stronger than the last caravan,” said Irma Garrido, a member of the migrant advocacy group Reactiva Tijuana Foundation.Meanwhile, thousands of Central American migrants from a caravan that left Honduras in October remain stranded at the U.S.-Mexico border and languishing in crowded Tijuana shelters while they wait out a lengthy process to file asylum requests with the United States…Garrido said this new, larger caravan will likely be joined by more people in El Salvador and in Guatemala, but she said they don’t plan on coming straight to the Tijuana-San Diego border, where resources are already stretched nearly to a breaking point.“They will stay in the south of Mexico in Chiapas and Oaxaca. Their aim is to request work there,” she said.
How are the members of the first batch of caravan migrants faring? Border authorities are referring 50 people a day for urgent medical care, including cases of tuberculosis and flu.
[Customs and Border Patrol] Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said most of those needing help were ill when they arrived at the border, and some appear to have made the initial decision to leave even while ailing.“Many were ill before they departed their homes,” the commissioner said. “We’re talking about cases of pneumonia, tuberculosis, parasites. These are not things that developed urgently in a matter of days.”
The American media is doing its best to undermine reasonable concerns for American public health.
People who oppose immigration often argue that migrants bring disease with them, and that they then become a burden to health systems in their new countries because they’re so sick.But that’s not true, a team of experts argued in a new report released Wednesday…. “Contrary to the current political narrative portraying migrants as disease carriers who are a blight on society, migrants are an essential part of economic stability in the U.S.,” added Terry McGovern, who heads Columbia University’s Department of Population and Family Health.
I will simply point out that the State of the Union address is January 22. Between the Border Wall budget battle and the continuing caravans, President Donald Trump already has plenty of material for an epic evening.
