Pelosi to the Press: Stop Obsessing Over Trump
“There are other things going on that are newsworthy.”
I shared Becket Adams’ piece on Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s comments to the press on Facebook and said that hell froze over because I actually agreed with her on something. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I needed to write about it. Pelosi told the press:
“I wish the press would spend a lot more time on what we need to do here to meet the needs of the American people instead of morning, noon, and night allegations against the president,” said Pelosi, D-Calif.
“There are other things going on that are newsworthy,” she added after a CNN reporter asked her about Trump. “I think you would have more viewers or readers if you address concerns that people have rather than just this ongoing, ongoing coverage of what’s current with the president from one day to the next.”
Pelosi added: “The Justice Department, the Mueller investigation they’ll work their will but there are other things going on that are newsworthy.”
She is absolutely correct. Why do I go to Reason first thing in the morning? Yes, I’m a libertarian, but it’s one of the few places that reports on policy more than anything else.
You know, decisions and ideas that actually affect people’s daily lives.
Maybe Pelosi realizes that this is why Trump won. During the campaign he concentrated on the economy, jobs, etc. You know, in the words of Pelosi, he addressed “concerns that people have.”
I don’t agree with Pelosi on policy, but it’s nice to see that she wants the focus to stay on policy and only shift to allegations against Trump when someone has concrete evidence against him.
This won’t stop her from attacking Trump. In the same presser she spoke about the border wall fight and has no problem keeping the government shut down forever instead of negotiating for funds for the wall.
Becket mentioned in his article that Pelosi didn’t like answering questions about impeachment before the midterms and more than likely she’s sick of it always coming up.
I agree with Ed Morrissey at Hot Air:
Even so, why scold the media for obsessing over her opponent’s supposed misdeeds? It could just be that Pelosi wants the focus to be positive for the start of the next Congress rather than on what Democrats will start doing with subpoena power, but there’s no way that Democratic discussions on farm bills will overshadow a president, especially Trump. Perhaps Pelosi’s worried about setting expectations too high for impeachment and wants to dial down the pressure. If that’s the case, then perhaps impeachment isn’t in the cards after all, at least not unless Robert Mueller finds more than what has emerged publicly.
I also think Pelosi wants the attention back on her. She finally has her beloved gavel back! I believe she’s ticked that the attention remains on Trump and not on her or the Democrats in the House.
No matter the reasons the press should listen to Pelosi. If anyone can get through to them I believe it can be her.

Slush fund fear? “There but for the grace of God go I”?
Currently, in the face of our booming economy, the repatriation of American factories – manufacturing companies – and other American corporate institutions, and our still rapidly shrinking unemployment levels, the Democrats’ pandering and self-serving pressing policies and concerns are a complete loser.
Although, personally, I totally agree that America’s impending “Democratic Socialism” and the results of such policies on American hardworking taxpayers should most certainly be discussed much more in the Press. Much, much more. Albeit, the mainstream Press will vastly just lie about the inevitable devastatingly detrimental effects of Democratic Socialism on America and Americans – so there’s that.
Otherwise, San Fran Nan Pelosi just sounds jealous and envious of all the attention President Trump is and has been getting more than anything. After all, his ongoing successes and “winning” are all clearly self-evident, and clearly working for ALL Americans and their future… and she’s just an old crusty relic of a bygone era and utterly failed experiment that will not be repeated for a long, long time.
Pelosi’s not suddenly being sensible or reasonable about news reporting. She realizes that her tactics are obsolete in the new Donaldean Age, and she has to try something else or spend the next few years crying in the wilderness.
She’s down on the Press because she realizes it didn’t cover for her when she was played by the President at the recent White House meeting. She’s finally realized that Trump controls the press, despite its best efforts to rubbish him at every real or imaginary opportunity, and she’s just along for the ride. And Trump manipulates the press easily with those goofy tweets everyone loves to grouse about; she can’t match that. She lacks the star power that makes him an automatic headline, so she wants to cut off the supply of oxygen by getting the press to ignore him. Hahahahahaha . . . yeah, good luck with that.
Actually, this hints at a surprising degree of perception and insight from the senile old fossil. She’s been such a font of misapprehension and foggy stupidity— we have to pass the bill to see what’s in it, the science is settled, etc etc—that it’s a real surprise when she comes up with a sensible (though hopelessly inadequate) way to attack a genuine challenge.
“San Fran Nan Pelosi just sounds jealous and envious of all the attention President Trump is and has been getting more than anything”
This was the first thing which came to mind when I saw the headline. Pelosi, like Hillary thinks she should be the center of attention.
I too am sick and tired of hearing DJT thrown into every single news article morning, noon and night for the past 3.5 years. There are important things going on in our country and around the world that have nothing to do with him. Too bad Nancy doesn’t take her own advice though and listen to issues that everyday Americans care about.
““There are other things going on that are newsworthy,” she added after a CNN reporter asked her about Trump.”
This, on the heels of a public pissing contest in the White House between her, brother Schmuck, and Trump over the border wall and ‘the Trump shut-down’ (of the government).
I agree with Morrissey, too, and speak more bluntly: Pelosi’s scold of the media is DOG WHISTLE for ‘impeachment ain’t a thing ’cause there’s no there, there.’
Well, there is the news that sleazy Schumer’s niece, Amy, doesn’t care to present herself as “fu€_able” anymore…
Was she ever?
And that mouth?
Maybe if the press stopped the 24/7 attacks on the President and instead covered what is good and bad today we would be better off. Even during GHWB funeral, they couldn’t help themselves and made it about PDJT.
The President has gotten under their collective skins and he can’t be allowed to breathe the same air according to the actions of the talking heads.
The press is addicted to President Trump and no human power can break through. It’s too self-satisfying to knock him and no easier way to earn a week’s pay in the news business today.
Pelosi is only concerned about this now because the Dems control the house and she wants to control the narrative.. and she knows that narrative can no longer be Trump! 24/7.
Dear Leader has issued new orders to the Press. We will now attack on issues!
It will be interesting to watch CNN, etc. and see how long it takes them to comply, or if they know how to comply.
