UNL Vice Chancellor for Diversity Will Receive $250K

Diversity administration is rapidly becoming an industry in higher education and big dollars are involved. How is this sustainable?

UNL names Utah college official as its first vice chancellor for diversity and inclusionA diversity official at Salt Lake City’s Westminster College has been named the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s first vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion.Monday, UNL named Marco Barker to the new position, which ranks high enough to serve in Chancellor Ronnie Green’s Cabinet. Barker will start April 1 and have a salary of $250,000.The naming of a vice chancellor-level official is part of UNL’s effort to increase its diversity efforts. Last year, a consultant urged the university to develop a strategic vision regarding its diversity efforts.In a statement, Barker cited the university’s ”The Nebraska Commission of 150” leadership group that is looking at UNL’s future. Barker said that work and the university’s analysis of its diversity efforts showed “how much Nebraska saw diversity and inclusion as a growing priority.”His statement said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to create and lead this inaugural office and work with the campus and extended communities to position diversity, inclusion and equity for the next 150 years. I invite others to join me in this journey.”
