Ben Shapiro Reads ‘White Guilt’ Troll Letter Sent to New York Times
“I’m riddled with shame. White shame.”
Ben Shapiro has taken his show on a live tour. This week, he performed in Dallas before a huge and appreciative crowd. During one segment of the show, he addressed a letter which was recently sent to the New York Times which clouded the line between parody and reality.
The letter, which was written by someone using the name “Whitey” is excerpted below:
How Can I Cure My White Guilt?
Dear Sugars,
I’m riddled with shame. White shame. This isn’t helpful to me or to anyone, especially people of color. I feel like there is no “me” outside of my white/upper middle class/cisgender identity. I feel like my literal existence hurts people, like I’m always taking up space that should belong to someone else.
I consider myself an ally. I research proper etiquette, read writers of color, vote in a way that will not harm P.O.C. (and other vulnerable people). I engage in conversations about privilege with other white people. I take courses that will further educate me. I donated to Black Lives Matter. Yet I fear that nothing is enough. Part of my fear comes from the fact that privilege is invisible to itself. What if I’m doing or saying insensitive things without realizing it?
Another part of it is that I’m currently immersed in the whitest environment I’ve ever been in. My family has lived in the same apartment in East Harlem for four generations. Every school I attended, elementary through high school, was minority white, but I’m now attending an elite private college that is 75 percent white. I know who I am, but I realize how people perceive me and this perception feels unfair.

Steve Almond: Shame and anger are powerful emotions, Whitey. And yet your central struggle is around identity. You write that you don’t know your place. In fact, your letter describes your place as a kind of prison cell of privilege. What you really feel is trapped within an identity that marks you, inescapably, as an oppressor. This feeling is especially acute right now, I suspect, because you’re suddenly immersed in a milieu that reflects your privilege back to you. We do live in a culture steeped in white supremacy and class bigotry, as well as patriarchal values. But the solution to this injustice isn’t to wallow in self-hatred.

A Twitter user who goes by the name Titania McGrath is taking credit for the letter:

The brilliance of the letter is that it’s not hard to imagine some progressive college student actually writing it. We’ve reached the point where it’s difficult to tell what’s parody.

Of course, I don’t know if “Titania” wrote the letter, or even if “Titania” is actually “Titania.” Nonetheless, one would expect that anyone would recognize that such a fragrantly flagellant expression as this letter was unlikely to be a genuine expression of remorse.

I believe the most disturbing part of this is that this woman who supposedly wrote the letter, Titiana McGrath, believes this is how “all white people SHOULD [my all-caps] feel about themselves.”
This is self-hatred, and the tone of that letter is that this person is near suicidal because the person believes that he/she is “always taking up space that should belong to someone else….”
That, I believe is how this sick AF ideology works – in a nutshell: HATE YOURSELF SO MUCH YOU SHOULD KILL YOURSELF TO MAKE THE WORLD BETTER, EVIL WHITE PEOPLE!
This HAS to stop! Glad Ben Shapiro is trying to address this hideous brainwashing.
Please keep in mind it is a TROLL letter, which mocks SJW causes and beliefs. As such, it is a masterpiece.
I can understand why you might miss that point. The line between extreme satire and reality is microscopically thin nowadays.

Also, just because Ben Shapiro calls it a “troll” letter – and he is brilliant at his reading of it as if it is a troll letter – HE DID NOT ADDRESS HER TWEETS.
She says HERSELF she MEANT IT, and is defending it as her “lived experience.”

You’re right. If you read her Twitter postings, she’s pretty damn funny. The one with the kids and Humpty Dumpty was hilarious. And I especially like the Aretha Franklin Hollywood post. This is a fine send-up of sick self-loathers at the Times, and that jerk Almond, who loves himself more than words can say, was completely fooled.

After looking at the account, this is either the same guy who made Godfrey Elfwick or a 4chan copycat.
Elfwick had a sort of composite SJW soy male picture, and if you look at the picture of “Titania,” it also seems to be a composite.

Social Justice always ends in segregation. Each identity group in the heirarchy is less privleged than the one above. If there were no white men which group would replace them in the pecking order? White women? Social Justice is nonsense.

The Times thought it was accomplishing something by publishing it.
Shapiro thought he was accomplishing something by reading it.
They’re all wrong. Pissing gasoline on a fire isn’t an accomplishment, even if the gasoline is imaginary (which, in this case, nobody seems to know . . . which does kinda ruin the joke . . . if that’s what it is).
Krauthammer was wrong when he said that American conservatives think liberals are stupid, and liberals think conservatives are evil. The evidence shows that they’re all stupid, even if not about the exact same things.

In Social Justice non whites are exempt and immune from racism.

It reminds me of the Dave Chappelle skit from 15 years ago….Clayton Bigsby, the blind, black, white supremacist. In the skit, Bigsby doesn’t know he is black, yet is so dedicated to the white supremacy cause. A friend of Bigsby tells the cameraman that if Bigsby knew he was black, he would probably kill himself just so there would be one less black person around……because “his commitment is that deep”.
The white guilty, whoever they are, and to whatever degree, are crying out in some type of religious way….they go through all of these motions to assuage their guilt, yet the cup remains empty. Who is the savior who will free them from these chains?
Whoever this person is has likely taken it to the double parody level: TITANIA? As in “titanium WHITE?”

I did overnight calls on Lifeline for a couple of years, and of all the “types” of calls that came in, the most difficult to address were from middle aged people who had spent their entire life caring for a parent, who had recently died, and suddenly that person was presented with the reality of having given up their entire existence for another, which then left them with nothing but a wasted existence. I don’t know. I get the same vibe from Titania. Her entire value is from things outside of herself, as a strategy, I guess, to fill the giant void that is within her, likely programmed in from her parents at birth. In the past I have argued that there is little difference between an extreme liberal and a drug addict. Each is using something outside of themselves (the cause is the drug) to fill a gaping hole which leads to a similarly unbalanced existence. That is why liberals cannot actually solve a problem. It is about the activity, with achievement not a part of the process, since achievement only leads to nothingness.

I like Shapiro. Even if he is a NeverTrumper (although he has walked back some from that)
He has a keen mind and is courageous. You can almost see him overcoming fear to champion Truth in some youtube vids.
