Thousands of Turks took to the streets in Germany to celebrate Turkish President Recep Erdogan’s election victory. Erdogan supporters waved Turkish flags, chanted the Islamic battle cry ‘Allahu Akbar’ and hailed the Turkish leader as their ‘Führer,’ German newspapers report. On Sunday, Erdogan declared victory in the presidential election, extending his 15-year reign in the Muslim-majority NATO member country.
Germany is home to nearly 3 million Turks, with roughly half of them eligible to vote in the Turkish elections. “Support for Erdogan was proportionally higher among the Turkish community in Germany than it was in Turkey,” German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported. He secured around 66 percent of the vote in Germany, compared to almost 53 percent in Turkey.
German weekly Der Spiegel covered the pro-Erdogan celebrations in Berlin:
Supporters of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated his election victory with great joy. Hundreds of people carried Turkish and [Erdogan’s] AKP party flags at the Breitscheidplatz square. Some held Erdogan’s portraits in their hands. Police cordoned off the area around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. In [Berlin’s] Kurfürstendamm district, Erdogan fans formed motorcade. Loud chants of “Recep Erdogan, Our Führer” could be heard. [Translation by the author]
German newspaper Der Westen reported:
Erdogan supporters didn’t celebrate the election result in Duisburg alone. They flocked to several places in the Ruhr region. (…)In Dortmund, too, some supporters of the AKP-chief gathered together and celebrated joyfully at the Borsigplatz. A video footage shared by the freelance Journalist Sebastian Weiermann on Sunday night shows Erdogan fans shouting “Allahu Akbar,” or God is great. As Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported, in Gelsenkirchen, too, many Turks walked through the streets waving Turkish flags. Muslim majority Turkey underwent a phase of secularization in the early part of the nineteenth century under the rule of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern state of Turkey.
Erdogan is determined to undo Atatürk’s legacy. He is carrying out a well-orchestrated plan to Islamize the country ever since his pro-Sharia Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power fifteen years ago. AKP government has invested billions of dollars in Islamic schools to promote Sharia education. The state-run Islamic schools will raise a “pious generation” that will “work for the construction of a new civilization,” Erdogan said in January 2018.
Turkish leader has similar plans for Europe as well. Turks “are the future of Europe,” Erdogan said at a 2017 rally. “I am calling out to my citizens, my brothers and sisters in Europe. Have not just three but five children.”
While German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door policy keeps Europe open to illegal migrants, Erdogan has weaponized immigration and demographic growth to gain an upper hand over Europe. As part of the Merkel-backed EU migrant deal, under which Turkey blocks asylum seekers from getting into Europe, Erdogan wants visa-free travel for 80 million Turkish nationals within the Schengen area.
Unfortunately for Europe, the current ruling establishment in Berlin and Brussels is in denial of the danger Erdogan and his Islamist ideology poses to the Western civilization. Europe’s liberal elite, busy comparing European patriots and Christian Conservatives to Hitler, can’t see the real Fascism when it marches in plain sight on their streets.
