New Poll Shows Mueller’s Public Image has Dropped to All-Time Low

A new Politico/Morning Consult Poll shows the public’s image of Special Counsel Robert Mueller has hit an all-time low. Now 53% of the public view him “in an unfavorable light.”

Maybe because the investigation has gone for over a year and all the charges have led to everything but collusion? Maybe because the American people care about the economy more than anything else?

The Poll

That’s a 26-point drop from last July when Politico/Morning Consult first started the poll.

Thing is, it’s not just Republicans or conservatives in those unfavorable numbers:

Mueller’s unfavorable numbers have hit highs among both Democrats and independents, at 24 percent and 33 percent, respectively. Thirty-six percent of all registered voters are also seeing Mueller unfavorably, which represents the highest level since the polling first raised the topic 11 months ago. Back then, 23 percent of all voters said they viewed Mueller negatively.—Voters interviewed for the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll also have changed direction on whether they think the Mueller investigation has been on the up and up. In the latest survey, 40 percent of voters said it had been handled unfairly, compared to early February when 34 percent said the probe wasn’t being handled fairly. The percentage saying the investigation was being done fairly remained unchanged from February at 38 percent. The latest poll also has bad news for the president. Forty-eight percent of voters believe Trump has attempted to impede or obstruct the Russia investigation, up from 44 percent who offered the same view in early February. Democrats by a wide margin — 79 percent — said Trump was trying to obstruct Mueller’s probe. But 70 percent of Republicans said the president wasn’t meddling in the investigation.

The poll found that 50% of Democrats gave Mueller “the thumbs-up for his job performance.” 18% of Republicans and 28% of Independents have a positive view of Mueller.

Here’s another interesting point. Even though the investigation has gone on for over a year, “Mueller also continues to be little-known to many Americans.” The poll found that “[T]hirty-two percent of all voters, and 40 percent of independents, said they either had no opinion of the special counsel or never heard of him.”

No opinion, or never heard of him.

Maybe it’s because the majority of Americans don’t care. We care about the economy. Jobs.

What Americans Care About

It’s why President Donald Trump won. He concentrated on the issues that us normal and mediocre Americans care about.

Even the Democrats have realized that they need to concentrate on the economy in order to make a dent in the 2018 midterms. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) saw the light! Pelosi has encouraged Democrats to stray away from the constant bashing of Trump and spend more time of economic issues.

Over at The New York Post, John Crudele reminded readers that while Americans love political scandals, the economy is the most important issue to us. Not social justice. Not Russian collusion. The economy. We want to know we have the ability to keep our jobs, grow in our jobs, and continue to fend for our family:

Scandals may keep the media occupied and entertained but even illicit sexual affairs — as both Bill and Donald learned — can be overcome if Americans have enough dough in their wallets and digits in their bank accounts.Foreign intrigue like possible trade wars and tension with other countries are important only to journalists and pundits until these problems start affecting the economy and the amount of money in peoples’ pockets.Crazy tweets and nutty comments — same thing. Show me where any nutty Trump tweet hurt the average person’s ability to feed his or her family. Until you can, consider them political theater that keeps us more entertained than worried.

I encourage everyone to read Salena Zito’s book The Great Revolt because she actually took the time to engage with those who voted for Trump. She brought up Trump’s tweets and his behavior and take a wild guess what most of them told her. They knew what they were getting into and still voted for him.
