This makes them look ridiculous. No person of average intelligence would buy this backwards thinking.

The Washington Times reports:

UC Berkeley: ‘Hard to defend’ free speech of conservatives who ‘incite’ liberal students

A long-awaited report on free speech protections at the University of California, Berkeley, blames “hard to defend” conservative speakers for inciting left-wing students to violence.

A commission of Berkeley faculty, students formed in 2017 after violent and costly student protests called its commitment to free speech into question. Their monthslong study of the issue resulted in the conclusion that “ultra-conservative rhetoric” by the likes of Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter only exists to “advance a facile narrative that universities are not tolerant of conservative speech.”

“Contrary to a currently popular narrative, Berkeley remains a tolerant campus,” the report says, Politico reported Thursday. “Although those speakers had every right to speak and were entitled to protection, they did not need to be on campus to exercise the right of free speech. Indeed, at least some of the 2017 events at Berkeley can now be seen to be part of a coordinated campaign to organize appearances on American campuses likely to incite a violent reaction.”

The commission was chaired by Prudence Carter, dean of Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education, and R. Jay Wallace, a professor of philosophy.

Isn’t this just ‘blame the victim’ dressed up in fancy clothes? Also, it’s insulting that these profs find some speech ‘hard to defend.’ Do they not understand that being for freedom of speech doesn’t mean that you’re endorsing someone’s message?

Free speech isn’t just a right that is protected by our constitution, it’s also a cultural value, one that Americans cherish dearly, though obviously not in San Francisco and other bastions of communism.

Just highlights 2 of the soul deep beliefs of the left.

First victimhood. Everyone must be a victim, that why you must depend on those at the top for your protection.

Also, their belief that there should be no such thing a personal responsibility unless you chose to not be part of the collective.

This report basically comes down to saying that the criminals, and yes they are criminals, aren’t responsible because they are victims (no responsibility because they are being a good part of the collective) of the mean conservatives who believe in free speech (do have personal responsibility because they are not good parts of the collective).

BS … Yiannopoulos and Coulter never even spoke at Berkeley. Just the mere thought of it pissed off the left. The left wasn’t incited by the right to commit those acts. The left choose to commit them.

Anyone ever been in court and see this sophistry tried? It is hilarious.

Expressing a political opinion is not “incitement”. Incitement tends to be more personal and if some little leftist loses their shit after hearing someone support free speech, they need to be taken in for a mental evaluation.

When will they learn that the speech they want to hear is not the speech that needs to be protected?
