Michelle Obama 2020. Yes She Can. But will she run?
Not running yet, but all is proceeding as predicted, a hapless hopeless Democrat party crying out for hope and a 3rd Obama term.
In our January 1 Predictions post, I made the following 2018 predictions (emphasis added):
1. Republicans will pick up 4 net seats in the Senate, and hold the House with a reduced majority of 10-15.
2. Robert Mueller will bring criminal charges for obstruction (lying to federal investigators) or crimes pre-dating or unrelated to the Trump campaign against more people, but will not assert any criminal conduct with regard to “Russia collusion” or by President Trump.
3. Get ready. This is the BIG ONE. If as predicted Republicans hold the Senate and House, there will be a clamoring for a Democrat candidate who can unify and motivate the Democrat base and establishment sufficiently to defeat Donald Trump in 2020: Michelle Obama.
All is preceding as predicted.
The Democrat field for 2020 is hapless and hopeless, and moving hard to the left. The great hope was Oprah, and she’s out. There is no hope left. No inspiration. No unifying figure. And the generic ballot is closing, so Democrats retaking the House is at best a toss up, and chances in the Senate are a long shot (though not impossible).
So then this happens. Michelle Obama is appearing on the Ellen Show. The second I saw that, I tweeted: “She’s running.”

The former first lady will appear on Thursday’s “Ellen DeGeneres Show” to celebrate the host’s 60th birthday, the show announced on Monday. The audience for the first of two birthday-themed shows will be “filled with people who are paying it forward” and have participated in DeGeneres’s #OneMillionActsofGood campaign, according to the daytime talk program.
Obama, 54, has kept a decidedly lower profile since exiting the executive mansion last January, but was a frequent guest on DeGeneres’s show as first lady.
The appearance is not an announcement, and rumors likely will be denied.
But is it coincidence that Mr. Obama is getting active in the 2018 midterms on behalf of Democrats? That he’s reasserting himself as a political figurehead?

She was always more ambitious than Barry, in my opinion. She wants to be queen, without a doubt. And President is the closest we have to that role.
I tend to doubt she’ll run. Michelle has too much to lose. Right now she has what she has always wanted: lots of money, and the freedom to do what she wants. She also has a good public image, and undoubtedly wants to keep it. Problem for her is that her public image is mainly built on lies and b.s. The public was told by the Obama PR machine, and most still believe, that Michelle was a smart and successful lawyer in Chicago. In fact, she only got into Princeton and Harvard Law because of Affirmative Action (and family connections, in the case of Princeton). In her only job practicing law, as a junior associate at Sidley & Austin, the firm gave her a special partner “mentor” to hold her hand and help her out, but even with all the extra help, she still failed. She flunked the Illinois bar exam, and the firm sent her packing after just a few years. The jobs she held after that were non-lawyer, political patronage jobs that were made up for her “special” skills (which basically amounted to being married to a state senator and up-and-coming politician).
Michelle is, by her own account, a “poor test-taker,” and such people tend not to do well in high-pressure, high-stakes events like presidential debates or unscripted press conferences. Of course, as they did with her husband, the media would do everything in its power to try and protect Michelle and hide her mistakes, but Michelle lacks Barry’s intelligence and glibness, and it is doubtful that the media could keep the public from seeing her many, many flaws.
So why would Michelle want to risk exposing herself as not-terribly-bright and destroy her own carefully-crafted public image just so she could return to the confines of the White House she hates? Perhaps her overblown ego, or the enticements of all the Obama-worshippers whispering in her ear will eventually get the best of her, but I tend to think that her own sense of self-preservation will keep her on the sidelines.

I don’t know if Michelle will *try* to run, but she won’t be welcome. The GOP remember what her husband was like, and won’t be voting for a return to it. Democrats remember how Obama destroyed their party, so at least a sizable minority won’t want her either.
Might be a bit premature, particularly considering all the speculation about The Memo, its contents, and the potential repercussions. It just might turn out to be that even the Dems wouldn’t want another Obama anywhere near the Oval Office.

Don’t be naïve boys and girls. Michelle would run in a heartbeat and represents formidable competition.
With these two, it’s all about THE AGENDA. Barack had his agenda and he rolled it out and he got eight years. But … since a lot of the things he did were superficial and were not enacted into law, the current administration is reversing them, as it should. Much of Barack’s leftist agenda is falling by the wayside, and Trump is trying to Make America Great Again. What Trump is doing is 180° opposite what Øbama tried to do, which was to reduce this country to a second rate power.
If Trump does what I think he’s going to do, when we hit 2020, the country will be perking along well, and we’ll be in the middle of a dramatic turnaround from what happened under Øbama. And the left will be losing and losing badly.
So what can the Left do to get back into the game? Let’s get the Black vote and the female vote in one fell swoop. Michelle can clearly be carried on Barack’s legacy just as Hillary was carried on Bill’s. The problem with Bill’s legacy, however, is that he is corrupt and morally repugnant. Hillary just could not distance herself from all of that. It was one of a number of the things that got her.
Not so with Michelle. If she runs, she’ll have support from a yuge chunk of the electorate who could care a hoot whether she is qualified or even wants the job. A black woman with the Obama name and his same socialist agenda? 40% of the popular vote without even campaigning.
She’ll be a tough candidate for Trump to face, because she will be able to play BOTH the race and gender card at every opportunity. Think how much the country became divided under eight years of Øbama. He played Alinsky’s rules perfectly.
And as much as I like what Trump is doing, he’s not really a unifier or a conciliator. By the time 2020 comes around, the country will be doing well internationally and economically, but the degree of division and gender/racial animosity will be worse than it is now.
Michelle, like Barack, is glib and smooth. She’ll make some miscues, but she’ll get a pass on every one. Trump isn’t getting any passes now; why would one think he might get any in 2020?
I think Trump’s vision and accomplishments will be trumped (sorry) by her style and wide base of support.
My guess is that the nomination in 2020 is hers if she wants it—just like it was Oprah’s if she had wanted it. Given the win-at-all-cost mentality of the left, I think they’ll pull (push?) Michelle into it.
