Maxine Waters to Give Her Own Special Response to Trump SOTU

Rep. Maxine Waters of California has made an industry out of opposing Trump. Her constant calls for Trump’s impeachment has earned her the nickname “Auntie Maxine” from hordes of progressive youngsters.

She won’t be offering the official Democratic Party response to Trump’s state of the union address (more on that in a moment), but she will be offering her own response.

Darren Sands reports at BuzzFeed:

Maxine Waters Is Giving A National Address On BET After Trump’s State Of The UnionOne of President Donald Trump’s fiercest critics on Capitol Hill will address the country just after next Tuesday’s State of the Union.Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, will speak at the top of a BET News special after Trump delivers the State of the Union, a BET spokesperson told BuzzFeed News. The program, “Angela Rye’s State of the Union,” is part of a broader partnership announced just days ago between the network and the Democratic strategist and political commentator. Rye will executive produce news programs with a sharp focus on issues facing black Americans. The programs will run quarterly, BET said in a release. The spokesperson said activists and some elected officials will analyze Trump’s first year in office on the program, and will talk about “building black politics and the value of engagement across today’s socio-political landscape.” A Democratic source familiar with the production on Friday night told BuzzFeed News that it wasn’t immediately clear if the program would air on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

Waters makes some of the craziest members of her party look sane, so her response should be very entertaining.

Getting back to the official Democratic Party response, that job was given to MA Rep. Joe Kennedy III. Kennedy is the great grand nephew of Senator Ted Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy. He is a child of privilege and a straight, white male. By Democrat standards, isn’t that a bit problematic?

The Boston Globe reports:

Joe Kennedy to deliver Democratic response to State of the Union addressRepresentative Joseph P. Kennedy III, one of the Democratic Party’s rising political stars, has been tapped by top party leaders to deliver the official Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union address next week. The choice thrusts the 37-year-old, three-term congressman from Brookline into the national spotlight more squarely than he has ever been before. The job will put him on national television as the face of the Democratic Party and the voice of chief Trump critic at an extraordinary moment in the country’s politics. For many Americans, it will be their first introduction to the latest Kennedy on the political scene.“Congressman Kennedy is a relentless fighter for working Americans,” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a press release announcing the move. “While President Trump has consistently broken his promises to the middle class, Congressman Kennedy profoundly understands the challenges facing hard-working men and women across the country.”

Yes, I’m sure a Kennedy who went to the Buckingham Browne & Nichols school in Cambridge before attending Stanford and Harvard Law has a deep understanding of hard working men and women in America.
