North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un threatened the U.S. with a nuclear strike, bragging that North Korean had the capability to deliver a nuclear warhead to the entire U.S. mainland. What’s more, he suggested it could be done on a moment’s notice, as the “button” was on his desk.
It was posturing in the very present tense, as there is no indication North Korea has that capability today, even though it has the components: Nuclear bombs and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Putting the two together and landing that missile in the U.S. is not within North Korea’s current capabilities, but given recent advances, could be within a matter of months and certainly within a year or two.
The reaction to Kim’s threat was muted in the American media. Kind of a “there he goes again” type shrug of the shoulders to the reality that decades of diplomacy trying to stop this development have been for nothing.
Trump initially was muted in his first reaction, saying “we’ll see” when questioned over New Year’s. But yesterday he tweeted his response: My button is bigger than yours, and it works.

There are fainting spells all over the place.
Trump is being accused to trying to start a nuclear war, but in fact it’s just the opposite. He’s reminding the mouse that roared not even to think about it.
It’s not the type of verbiage we’re used to hearing — how much more “sane” our Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) policy towards the Soviets and now Russia/China sounded. But it basically was the same point: Don’t even think about going nuclear on us or we’ll annihilate you. And we mean it.
After Trump’s tweet, I think Kim Jong Un understands Trump means it, unlike Obama.
