Utah Valley U. Under Federal Title IX Investigation

The federal government has placed Utah Valley University under an investigation for possibly violating Title IX.

From The Daily Herald:

“The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has notified UVU of a complaint against the university. UVU just received notice of the complaint and is reviewing it,” UVU Spokesman Stephen Whyte said in an emailed statement Monday afternoon. “UVU is committed to genuine inclusion and providing a safe environment for all. The University takes these matters very seriously and is proactively pursuing the appropriate actions as prescribed by current policies and best practices.”The U.S. Department of Education does not disclose case-specific facts or details about institutions under investigation. The list of universities under investigation is only available from the department upon request and displays a case opening at UVU on Aug. 10.The federal Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex.The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights currently has hundreds of open Title IX cases at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The cases can — and do — take years to resolve.The University of Utah and Westminster College in Salt Lake City have previously been placed under investigation as well. The investigations at those universities have not been closed.
