Mizzou Hosting Support Group to Help People Survive ‘Predominantly White’ School

The University of Missouri’s College of Education has promoted a support group for students, faculty, and staff to help them survive at the “predominately white institution.

The flyer states that the group has previously “focused on racial identity develop, mindfulness, colorism, self-love, and experiences of holding two or three marginalized identities.”

The group will also discuss skills on how to survive on campus and resist all the hatred “through the use of emotional regulation, mindfulness, and distress tolerance.”

This is the flyer posted on Facebook:

You can see at the bottom of the flyer the Department of Black Studies, Department of Psychological Sciences, Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity, and Department of Educational, School, & Counseling Psychology are involved well.

From Campus Reform:

A page on the university’s website introduces ambiguity regarding the school’s role, however, describing “Healing from Racial Injustices” as a “student-led support group,” though it also indicates that the group has a permanent location in the school’s Multicultural Center.Campus Reform reached out to the university for additional comment on its involvement with the group, but did not receive a response in time for publication.
