Trump in Poland: ‘The West Will Never, Ever be Broken’

President Donald Trump began his second overseas trip in Poland, a country that has been battered and torn throughout history. But Poland has taken a stance against the European Union when it comes to migrants and those they fear can damage the country.

Trump addressed Poles in Warsaw’s Krasinski Square, stating that “nations must have the will to protect borders and preserve civilization from those who would destroy it.”

Fox News continued:

“Just as Poland cannot be broken, I declare today for the world to hear that the West will never, ever be broken,” Trump said. “Our values will prevail, our people will thrive and our civilization will triumph.”—“In the Polish people, we see the soul of Europe — your nation is great because your spirit is great and your spirit is strong,” Trump said, calling Poland the “geographic heart of Europe.”Trump reflected on historic invasions of Poland by the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, saying that while Poland’s borders were “erased from the maps,” it could “never be erased from your hearts.”“The story of Poland is a story of people who have never lost hope, never been broken and never, ever, forgotten who they are.”

Trump also addressed that Poland has been one NATO country that has actually met the agreed upon dollar amount when it comes to defense. He then praised Article 5 of NATO, “the collective defense provision that holds an attack on one ally nation is considered an attack on all allies.”

When Trump brought up the “dire threats” that will bring harm to the West, he mentioned “radical Islamic terror.” From Fox News:

“We are fighting hard against radical Islamic terrorism and we will prevail,” Trump said, acknowledging that the U.S. and Europe have seen “one terror attack after another.”“We are going to get it to stop,” he said.He added: “While we will always welcome new citizens who share our values and love our people, our borders will always be closed to terrorism and extremism of any kind.”

Poland has received a lot of backlash from the EU because it will not accept migrants that continue to storm through Europe. We have witnessed terrorist attack after terrorist attack in the UK, Germany, and France, but not one in Poland. It’s not a coincidence.

The EU has threatened Poland with penalties, but the Polish government fired back that accepting migrants would be worse. And honestly, considering Poland’s history, can you blame them? From The Independent in May:

But Prime Minister Beata Szydło told a press conference there had been no formal agreement to compulsory quotas, which Hungary and Poland voted against.“A critical attitude towards the mechanism of migrant relocation is becoming increasingly widespread in the European Union,” she claimed, according to a translation by state broadcaster Poland Radio.“Poland cannot accept refugees.”—Mariusz Blaszczak, the interior minister, stuck by the position on Wednesday despite the EU’s warnings.Claiming that accepting migrants would have “certainly been worse for Poland” than facing EU action, he told state radio that the “security of Poland and of the Poles” was at stake and drew a link to terror attacks in Europe.
