White Students at American U. Barred From Entering ‘Sanctuary’ for Black Students
Didn’t we fight to end this sort of thing?
Has it dawned on anyone in higher education that situations like this are setting back race relations? Or is that the whole point?

White Students Blocked from Lounge Designated as ‘Sanctuary’ for Blacks
A cafe/lounge at American University, a private institution in Washington, D.C., was designated a “sanctuary” for black students and white students were barred from entering.
According to The College Fix, The Bridge Cafe was only opened six weeks ago as “a community space that student organizations can use however they would like,” including open-mic nights and slam poetry. But because of an incident two weeks ago, black student activists issued a demand list to the administration and got them to agree to make the cafe their own private “sanctuary” for the rest of the spring semester.
The incident in question involved bananas with “Harambe” and the name of a black sorority written on them hanging from nooses in a couple of places on campus. That gave the student activists enough leverage to issue strong demands to Provost Scott Bass, which included three things:
For the remaining of the semester, the Bridge will become a sanctuary for people of color [POC].
All POC students get extensions, and should not be penalized for already scheduled finals after the incident.
A separate investigation team based out of the university (composed of a group of non-biased expert contractors) that can investigate cases of racism and discrimination brought against the institution of American University.

What’s the over/under on the banana/harambe “incident” being a hoax calculated to mau-mau the administration into acceding to those “demands”?
Because that’s not racist or anything.
If they’re going for ‘separate, but equal’, they’ll need a cafe/lounge just for white students, too.
So I assume white students can ask for a refund for services and facilities they can’t use but had to pay for?
They can ask, sure.

Who talks like that? I will cut some slack for ESL students, but even so, they should have gotten a decent enough TOEFL score to avoid that obvious error.
Assuming the above atrocity was penned by a native English speaker, we have yet another example of the “quality education” students are getting these days.
Diversity was sold based on the idea that when students of different backgrounds work, eat, study, and live together they will become more understanding and tolerant. But you can’t reasonably claim that if you also support allowing students of certain backgrounds (I won’t call them “cultures”) to segregate themselves.
So what now is the rationale for diversity?
Funny I thought segregation in schools and universities was illegal.
Only if non-blacks do the segregating.
How regressive of these ignorant young people. After all that MLK Jr. sacrificed and so many black americans fought for, to end segration, they’re now demanding segration come back. Well, they will get what they want, they will be segregated from society if they want it.

Oh suuuureee!!! So when whites try to segregate everyone freaks the fuck out! But when blacks do it it’s completely fine!!!! Stop thinking just because you’re the minority you can do these things! It’s not a “safe place” or whatever bullshit you call it, it’s SEGREGATION!!! Stop being offended by a couple of hanging bananas and stop using the race card to get whatever you want!
