Florida Memorial U. Awarding Posthumous Degree to Trayvon Martin
“honor of the steps he took during his young life toward becoming a pilot”
Like the media, academia is doing its part to reinforce the progressive narrative around this story.
The Tampa Bay Times reports:
Florida university to award Trayvon Martin a posthumous honorary degree
At its commencement ceremony on May 13, Florida Memorial University will present a posthumous honorary degree to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager killed by George Zimmerman five years ago.
The private university announced Wednesday that Martin’s parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will accept a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical science with a concentration in flight education on behalf of their son.
The degree is in “honor of the steps he took during his young life toward becoming a pilot,” the school said in a Facebook post. Florida Memorial’s Department of Aviation and Safety has a designated Cessna pilot training center, and the school also houses the Trayvon Martin Foundation. It is based in Miami Gardens, where Trayvon Martin lived with his father.
Trayvon Martin was 17 when he was shot and killed in February 2012. Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford. He had called 911 to report a suspicious person in his neighborhood and later got into a fight with Martin.

Coming soon to a university near you, the Bonnie & Clyde Darrow chair of Bank Management.
Glorifying another negro thug. Whatever…
So, does that mean we have to refer to him as Dr. Dead Thug?
You hardly ever see a black pilots. I wonder why that is…
Most of them are afrophysicists.
I do not recall hearing anything about any steps that Thug Martin took toward becoming a pilot — at least, not until this story broke last week. I am calling BS on this award of a BS.
If they’re giving one to Martin, they should surely also give one to Charlie
Bisharaoops, I mean Bishop, who is charmingly described on Wikipedia as “Charles Bishop (pilot) (c. 1987–2002), amateur terrorist”.(The WP article, of course, omits any mention of the Bishop family’s original name. It also says the mother dropped her ridiculous lawsuit against the maker of Accutane because “she was physically and emotionally unable to continue the action”. That’s a polite fiction; the truth is that she dropped it because no lawyer was willing to go forward with it, especially when it transpired that the kid hadn’t even been taking the stuff! Apparently its side-effects are so strong that merely having the prescription written for him was enough for it to drive him crazy.)
When does Michael Brown get his posthumous Nobel Prize.
It’s really surprising that Obama did not give these two black heroes Presidential Freedom Medals, while he had a chance.
Today’s college degrees aren’t worth the toilet paper they’re printed on!
Snark!
