Tucker Spars With Massachusetts State Senator Over Sanctuary Policy

In the wake of a Massachusetts state representative tipping off illegal aliens about pending ICE raids, Tucker Carlson interviewed MA state senator Jamie Elderidge to discuss this plus pending legislation to make Massachusetts a “sanctuary state.”

Fox News reported on state rep Michelle DuBois’s Facebook posting warning illegals in Brockton to “stay off the streets.”

A Massachusetts lawmaker posted an online warning to illegal immigrants about an upcoming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “raid” in the area.State Rep. Michelle DuBois (D) suggested in a since-deleted Facebook post that undocumented immigrants in Brockton “stay off the streets” and not answer if someone unexpected knocks on the door. She also included a phone number for anyone “picked up by ICE” to call to get legal services.DuBois said she received a tip-off about the “raid” from a friend in the Latino community.

State senator Eldridge appeared on Tucker’s show to defend DuBois and to make his case for state legislation making the commonwealth of Massachusetts a “sanctuary state.”  Eldridge is infamous for being arrested last year while protesting the minimum wage, and he was the subject of much ridicule following a grandiose ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new water fountain.

He’s a “resist” Trump regressive who proudly tweets of his support for the “resist we much” movement.

Eldridge is also an outspoken advocate of “single-payer” health care.

He and Tucker sparred over which federal laws states and cities can decide not to enforce, and the results were interesting with Tucker asking if it’s okay for states and cities to decide not to enforce federal gun or tax laws or to  pass local and state laws to that effect.

Eldridge, who does not himself live in a sanctuary city, told Tucker that Massachusetts police chiefs support sanctuary status, and while some do, he conveniently ignores the ones who adamantly do not.  Among those Massachusetts law enforcement officials who reject sanctuary city policy are the police chief of Salem and the sheriff of Bristol County, the latter only this week called for the arrest of leaders of sanctuary cities.

A Massachusetts law enforcement official testifying before Congress on Tuesday called for leaders of sanctuary cities to be arrested.Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told the House Subcommittee on Illegal Immigration that sanctuary cities “have become magnets for illegal aliens, some of which have violent criminal records.”“If these sanctuary cities are going to harbor and conceal criminal illegal aliens from ICE, which is in direct violation of Title 8 of the U.S. Code, federal arrest warrants should be issued for their elected officials,” Hodgson said. “Our citizens would be safer if we never stopped enforcing immigration law and if we never formed or turned a blind eye toward sanctuary cities.”

During the interview, Tucker asked about a Worcester teacher’s aid, Sandra “Buffy” Hehir, who had been, a mere few weeks ago, brutally murdered in her home by an illegal alien.  This cold-blooded murderer has a lengthy criminal history, including criminal charges in both New York and Florida, as well as being in this country illegally.

Eldridge’s empathy, however, seems reserved for criminal illegal aliens and not the victim or her family, as he makes clear in dismissing the brutal crime and subsequent arrest as “evidence” that local and state law enforcement are all that is needed to bring criminals to justice.  In doing so, he conveniently ignores Tucker’s point that the illegal alien shouldn’t have been here in the first place and that Hehir would be alive today if he had been deported as required by federal law.

Eldridge also trots the out the same tired talking point about how allowing illegals to roam freely helps law enforcement because they aren’t afraid to report crimes if they don’t fear deportation.

And of course it’s “xenophobic” to deport those who are in this country illegally and have not committed a violent crime.
