Famous liberal actress Jennifer Garner has told The Washington Post that she will work with President Donald Trump to help him uphold a few of his campaign promises:
Very much in the former camp, Garner acknowledged that some of her friends “want to turn their back to this administration . . . [and] just wouldn’t even want to engage.”Not her. “If he’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected, then let’s do it. They certainly think he’s going to,” she said.
Garner has long used her celebrity status to help “bring assistance to poor, rural communities in desperate need of that.” She told the Post she will not change her plans “just because most of those communities went big for Trump” in November:
“People felt like Trump really understood them, that he was going to come in and create jobs for them,” she said. “They felt like they needed something to just turn everything upside down.”It’s that level of despair that leaves Garner willing to deal with Trump when some of her friends want to offer nothing but resistance. She may even be willing to meet the president.“Send me a ticket to Mar-a-Lago. I’m ready to go down and have a steak and a good chat,” she said, only half joking about the prospect. “I really think it’s great, if he’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected.”
Trump faced immense backlash from Hollywood during the campaign. I don’t know about you, but I laughed because before he decided to run for president the celebrities loved him.
But after he won, a few in Hollywood have spoken out in support of Trump and urging their fellow celebrities to give him a chance.
Earlier this month, actor Matthew McConaughey spoke out against the treatment:
“Well, they don’t have a choice now. He’s our president,” he told ChannelFI. “And, it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an Inauguration and time as we’ve had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact. And be constructive with him over the next four years.”—“So anyone, even those who may strongly disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — and that’s another thing, we’ll see what he does compares to what he has said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be,” he shared.
Even Morgan Freeman found positive thoughts for Trump:
“I’m holding out hope that Donald Trump has to be a good president. He can’t not be. What I see is a guy who will not lose,” said Freeman. “I supported Hillary in the election, and now it feels like we are jumping off a cliff.”
Nicole Kidman was one of the first actors to show her support for Trump:
“I just say: ‘He’s now elected and we as a country need to support whoever is the president, because that’s what the country is based on.'”After facing backlash for her perfectly reasonable sentiments, Kidman told Access Hollywood, “I was trying to stress that I believe in democracy and the American Constitution, and it was that simple.”
