To prove “Love Trumps Hate,” Ithaca Women’s March smashes Trump piñata head

I was not in my hometown of Ithaca (NY) for the Women’s March.

Ithaca, in case you didn’t know, is like Berkeley, California, only smaller. Here are the directions I used to give to my house, from November 2008:

To live in Ithaca is to live in a city alive with anti-Bush, anti-war protest.  I often joke that the directions to my house in Ithaca read as follows: Take a right at the fifth Obama sign, a left at the third “Impeach Bush” placard, bear right at the “Support Our Troops, End the War” poster, and we are the house just after the “There’s a Village in Texas Missing its Idiot” banner.

The Women’s March attracted quite the crowd, estimated at 8-10 thousand people.

That’s not really surprising. It was the virtue-signaling event of a lifetime for Ithaca’s huddle masses of aging hippies, social justice warriors, and other assorted people for whom Trump *literally* is Hitler.

There were plenty of signs repeating the line that Love Trumps Hate.

But a group of protesters set up and then smashed a pinata of Trump.

The Cornell Sun reported:

As protestors in Washington D.C. smashed Starbucks windows and lit garbage cans on fire, about 30 Ithacans decimated a President Donald Trump piñata and offered free coffee, tea and snacks to passers-by in Dewitt Park. The Ithaca branch of Food Not Bombs, an international, decentralized organization that offers free, vegan meals, organized the “Anti-Inauguration Day Assembly” downtown. The head of the Trump piñata — filled with vegan candy and hanging between two trees in the park — was quickly decapitated, and some protesters placed it over their own heads and posed for selfies with friends. Another pierced the head, which was covered in gold-colored strands from the end of a mop, with a large stick.

The piñata head was filled with VEGAN candy. It doesn’t get any more Ithaca than that.

The group that created the piñata and smashing event posted more photos on Facebook:

A video posted on Facebook showed people smashing Trump’s head, after it already has been severed from the body.

Having seen a lot of Facebook chatter from the locals, this was like Woodstock for them.

But what they really wanted was Altamont.
