Until recently, it wasn’t known which of the living presidents would attend Trump’s inauguration. Jimmy Carter was quick to accept the invitation but George W. Bush had reasons to skip the event due to the many clashes between Trump and Jeb Bush. Bill Clinton had an even more obvious reason to be busy that day.
It turns out everyone is going, even Hillary.
New York Magazine reports:
Bill and Hillary Clinton Will Attend the Trump InaugurationBill and Hillary Clinton have decided to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, according to two sources with knowledge of their plans. The Clintons will join former Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, who have also announced that they will attend. George and Laura Bush said today that they would be present “to witness the peaceful transfer of power.”
It’s a good thing that the Bushes and the Clintons will the country above themselves by attending Trump’s inauguration but it probably won’t make things any less awkward.
It will be hard for Hillary to paste on a smile like she did at George W. Bush’s inauguration — at least he didn’t “steal” the election from HER and deprive HER of HER place in history:
The Hill has more:
George W. Bush to attend Trump’s inaugurationFormer President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, will attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration this month. In a statement Tuesday, Bush’s office said the couple is “pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power — a hallmark of American democracy — and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence.”The decision makes Bush the second living president planning to attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Former President Jimmy Carter said last year that he would attend.
President George H.W. Bush isn’t attending but he gets a pass for being over 90 years old.
Do you think everyone will go out for a drink together when the event is over?
Not everyone is happy about this. Twitchy reports:
