TX Gov. Abbott to Cut Funding to State Colleges Which Offer Sanctuary

There is a mad rush among progressive academics to institute “sanctuary campus” polices which will harbor illegal immigrants much in the same way as sanctuary cities. It’s largely due to Trump’s stunning election victory and the left is trying to make it happen before the President Elect is sworn in.

Meanwhile, opponents of this policy are working on possible consequences for these actions. Texas Governor Greg Abbott is one of those people.

The Dallas Morning News reports:

Gov. Greg Abbott vows to cut funding to state universities that welcome immigrants here illegallyTexas Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday he would cut state funding to any Texas public university that declares itself a sanctuary campus.Abbott issued the statement on Twitter after news that students from across the state are petitioning school administrators to declare state universities sanctuaries for unauthorized immigrants.

Petitions released Monday from students at the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University demanded school administrators follow the model of sanctuary cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, which prevent police from enforcing immigration laws and cooperating with federal immigration officials.

FOX News has more on what the students want:

Students at Texas university call for ‘sanctuary campus’After the election of Donald Trump some Texas State University students like Raymond Garcia began to feel uneasy.”Oh definitely I have friends who are immigrants, family who are immigrants, a lot of people who were definitely feeling for their safety, their livelihood,” Garcia said. Some fear Trump, as President, could do away with DACA — that’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Basically, protection for qualifying undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.”If they’re coming here, if they want an honest education, if they want to be here and they want to work, they should be able to come here to the United States and do that but they should definitely be able to come to the campus and do that and not feel worried about being hazed or being pressured,” said Texas State student Nikolas Farrell.

Abbot discussed his plans for sanctuary cities recently on FOX News:
