Democrats Build Pillow Fort to Protest Due Process

The Democratic Party is apparently taking cues from progressive campus protesters now. In a move reminiscent of a safe space at Mizzou, congressional proponents of gun control staged a sit-in on the House floor yesterday.

The irony is that these aging, 1960’s obsessed hipsters disguised as elected officials were actually protesting civil rights. Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist explains:

Democrats Shut Down Congress With Anti-Civil Rights Sit-In. Good!Democratic members of Congress on Wednesday staged a sit-in on the floor of the House to oppose gun rights. Now you might say that it’s childish to sit down criss-cross, applesauce on the floor of the House. You might say that this is the first sit-in you recall when members of Congress staged such a stunt in opposition to civil rights. You might note that Democrats twice voted down bills that would have expanded terror list background checks while also protecting the constitutionally protected right of due process. But why focus on the negative? Democrats have voluntarily taken it upon themselves to grandstand in such a rule-breaking fashion that Republicans declared the House in recess. And that’s a good thing! The less time Congress is voting on bills, the less opportunity they have to take away our constitutionally protected freedoms.Instead of complaining about Democrats’ anti-civil rights behavior, let’s celebrate it just this once.

Hemingway also reminds us of a similar event in 2008 which proves the hypocrisy of these Democrats:

These guys aren’t just serious. They’re granola bar serious. Stand back in awe. This is also an opportunity to watch hypocrisy in action. After Republicans declared the recess and accordingly turned off the C-SPAN cameras, Democrats were furious and cried out about the unfairness of having cameras taken away from them. But in 2008, Republicans opposed a motion to adjourn before scheduling a vote to allow off-shore drilling. They refused to leave and continued to bash then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for leaving town before a vote. Democrats turned off the lights and microphones and shut off C-SPAN.

Here’s a video of the ‘occupation’ kick-off:

CNN fell all over itself to praise the Democrats and point out that the sit-in was led by Congressman John Lewis:

Republicans are aiming to wrestle back control of the House floor Wednesday night from Democrats who, led by civil rights icon John Lewis, are holding a sit-in demanding a vote on gun control that is entering its eighth hour.In a move rich with historic symbolism, Lewis, a Democratic congressman from Georgia, and fellow Democrats sat down at the front of the chamber in an unusual demonstration of civil disobedience challenging Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Iowahak noted one little problem with that:

Of course, no idiotic Democrat stunt would be complete without Elizabeth Warren. Some Twitter users wondered if Warren might choose a very specific sitting style:

This was my two cents on Twitter:

Can you blame Democrats for wanting to talk about gun control? If they faced the truth they’d be forced to admit that Obama’s anti-terror policies have failed, or that the Orlando shooter was a registered Democrat, or that their own party voted against concessions Republicans offered on this very issue.

Last month, the left’s favorite distraction was transgender bathroom rights. Now it’s this. Next month it’ll be something else.

These are adult babies throwing a tantrum. How can we expect anything better from college students when their elected representatives exhibit the same behavior?

UPDATES by Kemberlee Kaye:

“What do we want?”

“To end due process!”

“How are we gonna do that?”

“By building a pillow fort!”

That’s pretty much what happened last night. Aleister was kind enough to write this post up late Wednesday night before the sit-in turned into a catered sleep-over. I hope the House Democrats had fun at their little pajama party, seeing as we paid for it.

There were pillows and blankets:

When Slate gets that this whole thing is a bad idea…

Gee, why ever would Democrats stage a kabuki protest? Could it have something to do with, I don’t know, money?

This just made me giggle:

At least there are still a few adults left on the Hill:

What’s a good protest without the contributions of ignorant celebrities?

Gee, if only the Senate had voted on the measures House Democrats are protesting… oh wait…

Le sigh. Again with the “hasn’t done anything” mantra.

Real talk:

And then there are those who are actually addressing the real problem:

Gowdy gets it:

Despite promising to hold out until Friday, Dems end their pillow party:

So brave:
