In case there was any doubt, Paul Ryan has said he’s not the least bit interested in being the Republican nominee for president.
In a press conference Tuesday, Speaker Ryan said, “I do not want, nor will I accept the nomination for our party.”
Ryan spoke directly to delegates attending the Republican National Convention saying, “if no candidate has a majority of delegates on the first ballot, I believe you should only choose from a person who has actually participated in the primary. Count me out. I simply believe that if you want to be the nominee for our party, to be the President, you should actually run for it. I chose not to do this, therefore, I should not be considered. Period. End of story.
So let me say again: I am not going to be our party’s nominee, but I’ll also be clear about something else. Not running, does not mean I’m going to disappear.”
Ryan has been a vocal Speaker since he took over after John Boehner resigned. Ryan explained that he took the speakership with the condition that he would not conduct business like his predecessors.
