Just when you thought you couldn’t be more ashamed of the past six years of American foreign policy…here comes the onslaught.
The AP has gotten its hands on draft documents suggesting that, as part of the controversial Iran nuclear agreement, Tehran will be able to use its own inspectors—as opposed to a neutral IAEA-based team—to keep tabs on the Parchin nuclear site in Iran. This is a separate, side agreement that the Obama Administration endorsed as part of the whole package currently awaiting judgment in Congress.
The AP explains what is contained in the draft:
The document seen by the AP is a draft that one official familiar with its contents said doesn’t differ substantially from the final version. He demanded anonymity because he isn’t authorized to discuss the issue.It is labeled “separate arrangement II,” indicating there is another confidential agreement between Iran and the IAEA governing the agency’s probe of the nuclear weapons allegations.The document suggests that instead of carrying out their own probe, IAEA staff will be reduced to monitoring Iranian personnel as these inspect the Parchin site.Iran will provide agency experts with photos and videos of locations the IAEA says are linked to the alleged weapons work, “taking into account military concerns.”That wording suggests that — beyond being barred from physically visiting the site — the agency won’t even get photo or video information from areas Iran says are off-limits because they have military significance.IAEA experts would normally take environmental samples for evidence of any weapons development work, but the agreement stipulates that Iranian technicians will do the sampling.The sampling is also limited to only seven samples inside the building where the experiments allegedly took place. Additional ones will be allowed only outside of the Parchin site, in an area still to be determined.”Activities will be carried out using Iran’s authenticated equipment consistent with technical specifications provided by the agency,” the agreement says. While the document says that the IAEA “will ensure the technical authenticity” of Iran’s inspection, it does not say how.
We already knew a “secret deal” had been drafted between the IAEA and Tehran; and while it is standard operating procedure for the IAEA to make inspection arrangements with individual nation states, it is not SOP for the United Nations to cede its investigative authority—especially when they’re dealing with a hostile government that is notorious for waxing uncooperative with international inspectors.
This is unprecedented. Under this agreement, Tehran will be allowed to employ its own experts and equipment to search for evidence, the existence of which they have repeatedly and enthusiastically denied.
What does this mean for the future of the Iran deal in Congress? I have no idea—but there’s no ignoring the fact that Democrats who have come out in support of this deal have either been totally snookered, or are (however unlikely) somehow in the know and thus complicit in this blatant precursor to a war crime.
This is their grand scheme. This is what Democrats have gone to the mat for. It could mean genocide, all in the name of the appearance of diplomacy.
It’s time to put pressure on these people to choose a side. The Obama White House is an incredibly powerful political force, but no political force on the planet can do the kind of damage that a nuclear weapon can do.
