Most Democrats Want Illegal Immigrants to Vote

According to a recent poll from Rasmussen, a shockingly high number of Democrats think that non-citizens should be allowed to vote in America’s elections:

Most Democrats Think Illegal Immigrants Should VoteAre voters ready to let illegal immigrants vote? A sizable number, including most Democrats, are.The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that one-out-of-three Likely U.S. Voters (35%) now believes that illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote if they can prove they live in this country and pay taxes. Sixty percent (60%) disagree, while five percent (5%) are undecided.Fifty-three percent (53%) of Democrats think tax-paying illegal immigrants should have the right to vote. Twenty-one percent (21%) of Republicans and 30% of voters not affiliated with either major political party agree.

The reason so many Democrats support this idea is obvious. It would increase their voter ranks immensely. It’s stunning that any Republican would agree with such an idea.

Allahpundit of Hot Air has more:

Between this and the latest hate-speech polling, Democrats (especially younger ones) are brimming with good ideas these days. If you want to be charitable, you can tell yourself that maybe some Dems would insist on a lengthy residency requirement in lieu of citizenship before letting them vote — say, 10 years minimum in the U.S. to prove they’re committed to having a stake in the country’s future. But Rasmussen’s question didn’t ask about that; the only conditions were residence of some unspecified duration and paying taxes. Presumably, in the Democratic utopia, an illegal who came across the border a year ago and is having FICA taken out of his pay before remitting a chunk of it to family in Mexico would/should have just as much influence over who controls the U.S. government as you do.

Thomas Lifson of American Thinker points out the endgame:

So, once the pendulum swings and Democrats gain control of Congress and the White House, we can expect Democrats to solidify their permanent control of government by legalizing what is already becoming a de facto reality: allowing people who manage to cross our borders without bothering to observe our laws or commit to the obligations of citizenship the right to determine our political future. Since the requirements of law mean nothing to these people, why not vote twice?

Indeed.
