I remember waking up at the crack of dawn during harvest, stumbling bleary-eyed into the kitchen where my mother was frying breakfast bacon for the crew and George was on the radio.
In later years I took my own daughters to see him in concert. A true gentleman that created a lot of great memories.
A friend posted he may have been the “best country singer”. Wrong, hard life like his combined with the incredible music puts him at the front of the list. Top off his legends when he drove his John Deere tractor to a bar to get a drink
To borrow the phrase from David Allen Coe, “If that ain’t country, I’ll kiss your ass.”

May God welcome you home ol’ possum.
My favorite two Jones’, both of which take on a whole new meaning today.

This brings back memories of rolling across the high plains in an unairconditioned pick-up, AM radio blaring wall-to-wall country music.
