I’m still learning things about the Internet. One of those things is the “Darwin Award.”
It came to my attention through this post at Israel Maztzav, And we have a Darwin Award winner!
In an earlier post, I reported that a ‘Palestinian’ had been shot and killed after pulling a gun on IDF troops in Hebron. In that post, I reported a claim that the gun in question was not real. I said that if that were true, the ‘Palestinian’ deserves a Darwin Award. He just won it. It’s now been confirmed that the gun was not real….Well, obviously he did it because he wanted to win a Darwin Award
The Darwin Award, as explained at the link in the quote above, is:
The Darwin Awards are a tongue-in-cheek honor, originating in Usenet newsgroup discussions circa 1985. They recognize individuals who have contributed to human evolution by self-selecting themselves out of the gene pool via death or sterilization due to their own (unnecessarily foolish) actions.
And then …. I noticed this post in my bookmarks (via Instapundit), The Blue-State Suicide Pact:
With their enthusiastic backing of President Obama and the Democratic Party on Election Day, the bluest parts of America may have embraced a program utterly at odds with their economic self-interest. The almost uniform support of blue states’ congressional representatives for the administration’s campaign for tax “fairness” represents a kind of bizarre economic suicide pact.Any move to raise taxes on the rich — defined as households making over $250,000 annually — strikes directly at the economies of these states, which depend heavily on the earnings of high-income professionals, entrepreneurs and technical workers. In fact, when you examine which states, and metropolitan areas, have the highest concentrations of such people, it turns out they are overwhelmingly located in the bluest states and regions.
This is a result I have pushed pretty hard myself, Stick it to blue states a/k/a Country First. Blue States may have a suicide pact, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play Dr. Kevorkian to them.
But sticking with self-inflicted wounds, which state gets the 2012 Darwin Award?
(Poll open until 6 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, December 13)
