I would love to do an experiment on the country: eliminate all tax-shelter trusts, all tax-deductions involving movies and charitable donations, and raise income tax rate to 75% (same as France), and if you make over $100K, no deductions at all?
Have the DNC, RNC, and any TeaParty groups that want to, estimate:
a) how much money will be raised.
b) change in number of full-time jobs.
c) change in govt expenses (unemployment, early retirement)
Then it’ll be abundantly obvious to all just how economics really works. And then we can change the tax rates back to something sane.
Sometimes, the only way people will believe you when you say ‘the stove is hot’ is for them to touch it.
There’s a lot of data out there for all to see, so it’s pretty clear that the claim that “higher tax rates = more money” is purely religious-based belief system.
A refreshing interview on a typical Lib politician. Don’t give them a chance to BS when things are falling apart. Also the politicians do think we are stupid. The problem is they’re right when it comes to 50 percent of the population.
Joan – Cigarette?? H*ll, cigar! And I’ve never smoked!
Unfortunately, while it’s feel-good, it’s pretty clear that the Senator’s political ideology is stronger than his sense of duty as a Senator.
Maria should have also asked Mr. Cardin what he considers “rich”, in his state of MD, 100K is considered “rich”, there is a millionaire’s tax on anyone earning more than 100K.
Considering how many federal govt employees there are in MD, that should cover a good chunk of MD.
According to these dimocrat idiots, anyone who earns a living and pays taxes is “rich”, there aren’t enough Bill Gates etc to get the monies needed for all the spending. Eventually the working middle class’s taxes WILL go up.
Even if taxes are only raised on the “rich” the rest of us end up paying a lot of those taxes FOR them … in the prices we pay when we do business with them.
I would expect as a member of the US Senate that you would have a passing knowledge of the US Constitution but since that is apparently not the case, here is a brief refresher:
Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
The House isn’t going to vote on a Senate spending bill because that type of legislation by law must originate in the House of Representatives.
How about that: She committed journalism on national TV!

You know me, Professor. If I smoked, this video would be another opportunity for a cigarette. Excellent!

Funny how the Senator didn’t mention THAT!
