It probably will not stop those who want to portray the case as racial from continuing to make claims of racial motivation in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, but the FBI has confirmed that there is no substantial evidence that George Zimmerman was racist.

Federal civil-rights investigators interviewed dozens of George Zimmerman’s friends, neighbors and co-workers, and no one said he was a racist, records released Thursday show.
FBI agents spread out across the state, talking to three dozen people, including gun-shop employees, Zimmerman’s ex-fiancée and the Sanford police detective who led the investigation into the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old.
And as the Sentinel further reports, additional evidence released mostly supports Zimmeran:
The new batch of evidence includes nearly 300 pages plus police-dispatch audio and crime-scene photos. Defense attorneyMark O’Marareceived it last month.
There was little new that appeared to help the state’s case. Two witnesses said they heard an argument, then the voices moved away then they heard cries for help and a gunshot.
That does not match Zimmerman’s version of events. He told police there was a very brief exchange of words, then Trayvon punched him in the nose with such force that he fell to the ground. He said the teenager climbed on top of him and began punching him and pounding his head into a sidewalk.
Most of the new evidence appeared to favor Zimmerman.
A new witness whose name was blacked out told a prosecution investigator March 27 that she saw the fight and that the person on top was the one who wound up dead.
That makes two witnesses — one from an earlier evidence release — who back up Zimmerman’s version that Trayvon had overpowered him.

I listened to this attorney for the Martin family earlier. Did this guy actually graduate from law school and pass a bar exam? Maybe I am filtering with my own prejudices but he sounds like a high school drop out. I have had more articulate servers at fast food restaurants.

I think the judge got what he was maneuvering for all along – an easy way out of this case that can put him in the gun-sight of some nutcase if he ruled with the evidence.
How would you feel about waiting until you see the response?
It was a well-written motion, and the Florida case-law makes removing a judge a LOT easier than here in Texas (on the civil law side).
Still, it will be interesting to see the response.
Funny… I asked if GZ could request a new judge based on Lester’s bail ruling just a week ago. It doesn’t surprise me that the defense is going this route, as I think it’s pretty easy to conclude that Lester would not be impartial based on the wording of his decision. Regardless of whether or not he’s justifiably angry at GZ, he certainly has beef.

Yes, a tiny, perhaps vestigial, indication of a spine in O’Mara.
I am glad to see the motion to dismiss the judge. I guess I missed the part where Zimmerman did something to warrant having his bail raised and having the judge state that additional charges would be warranted. None of the testimony I saw before the court was misleading or a lie. The prosecution is whining about the defense not coming forth later once they learned what was in the account but I do not see why that would have been expected.
Were the judge and prosecutor not lazy they could have followed up or required the defense to find out the information they needed before setting bail. IMO that is completely on them and dragging Zimmerman back in to make a big show for the press was all part of the railroading. That sequence of events should be grounds enough to get a different judge.
Besides, if the original judge were competent he would have looked at the lack of evidence and dismissed the charges by now.
But I guess we have to remember that a police chief was forced out and a detective was demoted for following the laws and proper procedure in not bringing charges so the message has been delivered to the judge as to the consequences of acting professionally. I foresee there being huge civil suits against the city and Corey facing disbarment hearings once this is over.
And if Zimmerman were a racist, that would – in some eyes – make the legalised buffalo charge OK.
