Regrets, they have a few

Regrets, they have a few

But then again, not too few to mention.

Dave Serchuk in Forbes, Congratulations! You Just Made Rush Limbaugh Sympathetic! (emphasis mine):

Imagine this scenario: you are a lifelong liberal. You pretty much hate everything Rush Limbaugh stands for, and says. You are really glad that the times have finally seemed to have caught up to him, and that people are outraged by his callous, gross comments. So what do you do next? You do the one thing that will make him a sympathetic figure. You call on the FCC to remove him.

Think this is just not-very-good satire? If only. Nope, I draw from this example because in an opinion piece just published on CNN.com Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem, and Robin Morgan did exactly this. In the process they seem to have played into the exact stereotype of the thin-skinned, hypocritical liberal. One who supports the First Amendment and freedom of speech … except for when they don’t.

What can I say?  They did it their way.

Comments

This time I’m sure they knew, they bit off more than they could chew.

To paraphrase Ann Richards…

“They kan’t hep it…they were born with a silver foot in their mouths!”

They were just letting their spots show. It is who they are.

Regrets I’ve had a few, but then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

    (Kind of describes Rush…)

I’ve been saying this for 20 years: they can’t help themselves. That is, they can’t refrain from totalitarianism. It’s not only the psychological trajectory of their nature but it is otherwise necessitated by the total, practical failure of their ideology.

The surest way to defeat Leftism is to give it power. The only problem is, so much of society and humanity is destroyed in the process.

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/03/15/OReilly-MMFA-Left-Wing-Media-Relationship-Blatant-Corruption-Of-1st-Amendment

That is a pretty good, clear example of the rolling echo-chamber that is Media Mutters, the White House, and the Mushroom Media.

They lie. Constantly. Then they lie about their lies.

Free Speech for me, but not for there! Hypocrisy and or stupidity doesn’t stop liberalism even when its ridiculously obvious! they want to stop corporations from being able to speak out and they do it from the Editorial page of the NEW YORK TIMES, a corporation of all places! They just want to make it illegal to oppose their agenda so they silence the opposition by preventing it from having an ability to speak. Liberals are always headed in one direction, totalitarianism.

Good.
Time to dust off all the old Hanoi Jane tapes. Bring it.

No, it is time for Jane to go to Iran and pose next to a surface to air missile protecting a nuclear reactor.

Hmm… I would say blinded by their own liberal rage and unaware of the optics.

“My Way” has a special place in my heart. It’s the favorite karaoke song of the drunken Japanese businessman … in the country where “the nail that sticks up gets hammered down.”

They have to conform with the group or the consequences are brutal.

Yet, seeing them belt this out is kind of touching. For the good of their families, they’ve to some extent sacrificed their individual identities and happiness.

Jane, Gloria, and Robin ???

They haven’t sacrificed anything. All they’ve ever done is whine. For these ladies, the key lines are:

“Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew”

LukeHandCool (who can step in Gloria and Jane’s shoes and sympathize that it really must suck when “And now, the end is near, and so [we] face the final curtain”).

1. Afaik the Republican Establishment’s reaction to the Fluke scam was true to form: passive and clueless.

2. Populist conservatives are doing a great job of hitting back. (Somewhere, Breitbart is smiling.) If not for Limbaugh’s gaffe, the Left’s ploy would have become an unmitigated disaster for them.

3. Fonda et al are overreaching. In effect they are calling for resumption of the so-called Fairness Doctrine. The public won’t buy that, let alone the Left’s Holy Grail of bailouts and subsidies for the MSM.

4. Going forward the Fluke incident will do the Left more harm than good. Look for them to drop it—and (cf. Cindy Sheehan) to sideline Fluke unless she is nimble.

5. They’ll probably switch to touting the economic recovery. (At least superficially, this morning’s jobless claims report was a good one.)

And how many of you have cancelled your HBO service?

    LukeHandCool in reply to retire05. | March 15, 2012 at 12:45 pm

I don’t have HBO, but I’m thinking of getting it so I can turn around a week later and cancel it and tell them I’m cancelling because of Bill Maher and “Game Change.”

We don’t have HBO either. It wasn’t worth it before. Certainly not now.

We did have Carbonite. Fortunately we caught one subscription just before it renewed. The other we cancelled 5 days after renewal and were told Carbonite gives no refunds for any reason (not bad service, not no service, not for cancellation after only 1% of service provided). That’s the kind of people they are. So, we just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau following the advice of another Carbonite customer who finally got a refund that way. May not work, but worth a try.

It seems that Mr. Serchuk knows liberals better than most of us.

Liberals and Democrats either need to make their case better than Limbaugh does, or, just as effectively, sit back and watch as his hate machine continues to eat its own tail. Eventually, though, you run out of tail. And that’s when the fun really starts. In fact, you could say the past two weeks have offered a pretty great argument as to why Limbaugh and his kind don’t deserve your vote, by any definition of that word. So let them talk.

Liberals, however, are simply blind to the hateful actions of their own kind, including their missteps that Serchuk just finished criticizing.

“What can I say? They did it their way”.

No, they did it the only way they know how. Mommy, Mommy get rid of that nasty ol’ man.

What are they trying to do, prove that they really are feminazis. Shut up… or else.

Sincerely,
A young mother and wife who really can’t stand your wrinkled and old version of bitter feminism. Please stop telling everyone that you are speaking for me as a woman because you don’t. I believe in free speech and the constitution more than desiring membership in your ideological sisterhood.

“Imagine this scenario: you are a lifelong liberal. You pretty much hate everything Rush Limbaugh stands for, and says…..”

Except that lifelong liberals DON’T know what Rush Limbaugh stands for, and says. They only know what the political enemies of Rush Limbaugh say he said.

There is a big difference between the two, just as in the case of Newt Gingrich.

Don’t get me wrong. Rush Limbaugh will spend thirty minutes making sense, and laying the groundwork for an exaggerated zinger. By the time he gets to the zinger, he has often made a persuasive case to support it. Then the reports about what Rush had to say are cut so that only the zinger, standing unsupported is left, and people get mad about it.

It’s just like what a hostile attorney will do to a long deposition answer: edit out everything that doesn’t support the answer he wants, which usually isn’t the answer he got.

If you support or agree with Rush Limbaugh, you must use long quotes from him.
