I haven’t forgotten about Phase 2, it’s just that things have been a bit busy.

This blog is one of my first stops every morning. I’ve got it added to Google Reader so that I can catch additional posts while they’re still warm from production. As we say in NJ: love love love this blog.

We were down in San Diego for a couple days, and, although my wife strictly forbade me to go near the three ipads in the hotel lobby to go on the internet, I did sneak over there in the morning and left Legal Insurrection open on all three of them, when nobody was around, for the guests who followed me.
Insurrection? Nah. Legal? Yeah. Silly? Oh yeah!

I in no way endorse the changing of homepages, but leaving it open, well, that’s a gray area. You’re on your own, legally and maritally speaking.

That is so funny!! I never go into Apple stores to change their display home pages…..just Verizon and AT&T stores when I shop for phones; iPads and iPhones have been left with Legal Insurrection up accordingly. 😀 And yes, to all the rest, too. 😉

Let me describe what your blog does for me.
Remember in college when you’d stay up late and argue the state of the world? There were never any great conclusions, but the debate opened your eyes to things beyond anything you knew going in.
Your blog is sort of like that now. It’s like sitting around and listening to an older (even though I’m surely older than you) and wiser grad student explaining things and sharing a perspective you’d never thought about before. You bring a dimension to the arguments that would be hard for us to find on our own.
You provide a great service, and I join all of your followers in thanking you for the commitment you have made. You are a teacher for the sake of being a teacher, and that’s the best motivation money can’t buy.
Keep it up.

Me too! Although I confess to FDL once in a while, to see what the oppos are saying. Believe it or not, a good portion of the commenters are really sick of the current admin and are threatening to sit it our….or vote GOP as a vote against BO. Who cares, it’s a vote for the good guys. :)))

As a recent convert to the site, the chance to be the 1,000th registrant was too much to pass up, so I had to pull the trigger. But alas, no dropping balloons or confetti, and no keys to a shiny new car, so I must not have gotten the magic number. Sigh.

Dadgummit! I just realized that I read over the first sentence of this post to quickly and the 1,000th user had already registered. That means I was merely something like number 1,013, or some such useless number. Rats! If only I could have held out until 10,000, that would have really been something. Maybe a new Corvette, or at least a toaster.
I’m no internet newbie; I run a number of websites, some more than 15 years old. This is the only blog I’ve ever bothered to register with or regularly read. Part of the reason for that is the unusually intelligent, focused and rational group of people here writing comments.
Excellent blog. What I especially like is the conciseness and directness of the postings. Pithiness. Lack of blah blah blah filler is wonderful. And, I enjoy reading the commenters too. Thank you.

I only have one question. How can you live in Rhode Island and teach at Cornell?

LI is definitely one of my first stops in the morning, and again throughout the day. I love the content, and the content from commenters. So much so that I hope 2.0 includes a daily Open Thread so that this will become the place I post nuggets I find elsewhere.
That’s something I’m thinking of, if any other readers have thoughts on an off-the-front page set up, I’d be interested in hearing about it.
Obviously, I check several times a day. You can tell that from my blathering posts.

I’m just trying to figure out why all my favorite blogs are run by lawyers. In the past, I’ve always been impressed by Shakespear’s view of lawyers so why the fascination with lawyers’ blogs?
Tis a mystery.
Between the sick feeling in the run up to and through the election in 2008, to attending the tea party rally on 9-12 in DC, was the birthing of my political awareness that what I was doing in the past was not enough if I wanted to preserve what I loved about this country. I was sick to my stomach about it …
I still don’t remember exactly how and where I discovered your blog, but it became one of my daily “must reads” around the time of Scott Brown’s election. And that was the period that in the midst of despair that Obamacare passed, your blog and the response to get him elected gave me hope – we could fight back.
We lost that battle overall (although we fought a good rearguard action), and we lost Scott Brown to a greater level of RINO-dom than I expected from him (but I always expected plenty), but you birthed an activist who learned what the left was up to (along with many other blogs I read), and made me proud to start dropping your and other blogs onto my personal Facebook page and let the world know I was fed up … and to my astonishment, discover some (not most) of my NE friends agreed that there were others out there willing to fight the fight.
From there, I started researching and giving in $25s and $50s to primaries and main races all around the country. Not huge amounts, but enough so that I thought “if everyone else does what I am doing, we can make a difference”. And in 2010 we did. And then I said I was going to up my game even further … and I am doing that. And I stayed involved, through Wisconsin and other fights.
And while I read and appreciate the many other sources (RedState, etc.), my two favorite blogs to this day for their personal, irreverent, intelligent style are yours and Mike Shedlock’s. You make the fight fun. Good spirits are important in battle, and we can’t survive on rage against the machine alone.
I don’t doubt that one way or other I would be where I am today in fighting the good fight, but without a doubt one of the early generals that gave form to the rallying call I heard inside me, that started me from alone in a sea of liberal friends around me (argh), frustrated and attending a rally or two but without direction … to a more effective activist was the good Professor.
Great job. Keep up the good work, you are making a difference – you made one here.
PS– If I were to cite one other influence that everyone should read, go over and read about the Precinct Committeeman project at RedState under the blogger coldwarrior about how to take back the Republican party.
Professor, I keep coming back because I’m expecting to find out that this site is some liberal experiment to see how many people will fall for the old “conservative professor from Ithaca” hoax:) In all seriousness, I visit every day (sometimes several times a day) to be educated. By a Cornell law professor no less! Great site. Thank you.
