I have posted numerous times before about John J. “Jack” McConnell, Jr., nominated to the R.I. District Court by Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed.
McConnell, by far the largest campaign donor ever nominated to the federal judiciary, has been opposed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the first time the Chamber ever opposed a nominee to the District Court.
Back in November, it appeared that Democrats would attempt to force a vote on McConnell and three other controversial Democratic nominees, but it appears that that will not happen.
As reported by a variety of sources, it appears that Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have agreed to confirm over a dozen Obama nominees in exchange for Democrats not seeking votes on McConnell and three others.
It is unclear if the deal includes an agreement not to nominate McConnell in the next Congress, or if it only is good for this term.
Sheldon Whitehouse previously has threatened retaliation against future Republican nominees if McConnell were filibustered.
I’m not sure this story is over.
