Angle 48%, Reid 41%

Angle 48%, Reid 41%

Rasmussen just released its latest poll of the Nevada Senate race, and Sharron Angle is leading 48% to 41%, a small drop from the immediate post-primary poll.

What is amazing is that for the past two weeks Harry Reid has been pouring on the attacks against Angle, both through his own advertising, astroturfing, and through friends in the mainstream media and left-wing blogosphere.

Reid has been trying to define Angle, but in many ways the attack-dog mentality of the Reid campaign defines Reid himself.

Reid reportedly wants to portray himself as the ultimate Washington insider — figuring that people will value his ability to bring home the bacon — but this is a risky electoral gamble in a year in which consummate Washington insiders of both parties are being shown the door.

The fact that Angle continues to lead reflects, as Rasmussen points out, that the race is about Reid, not his challenger:

This returns the contest to where it’s been in surveys for months where Angle, a Christian conservative, ran weakest of the three Republicans seeking their party’s Senate nomination in match-ups with Reid.

Prior to the findings two weeks ago, Angle’s support in surveys stretching back to December has ranged from 44% to 48%, while Reid has earned 38% to 43% of the vote. In April, Angle held a 48% to 40% lead over the Democrat.

Reid‘s campaign and national Democrats are already pounding away at Angle’s views as unacceptable to the state. But at this early stage, the race continues to be about Reid, who earned 61% of the vote when he was reelected in 2004 but whose support in this election cycle against any Republican candidate has never risen above the low 40s. Any incumbent at this point in a campaign who is earning less than 50% support is considered vulnerable.

The race is winnable for Angle, because as much as Reid may attack Angle, Reid cannot change his own dismal and unpopular record.

It is very interesting and telling that the SENATE MAJORITY LEADER and a key figure in the barack hussein obama regime can't hold his own against a political nobody – and Tea Party Activist.

You're right, it's not about Sharon Angle and it's not that Harry isn't pouring money into attacking her — it's about Harry and barack.

I was there at the Tea Party kick off at Searchlight Nevada where the organizers planned for a couple thousand to show up and twenty-something thousand showed up, with uncounted thousands more being turned away by the Highway Patrol because of overwhelming numbers and no place to park. It was telling.

Reid is a collectivist, and in many respects he is an actual enemy to the people he purports to represent. That he would be booted from office is no surprise.

As I watch the polls, I am amazed that the progressives can mount 40% of the vote or a favorable opinion. I know that many people don't know the condition of our country and the fundamental change that is taking place in our government, but it would seem that if we are all in this together and desire to see our country recover and succeed then the percentage would be much lower. I have begun to feel that about half of the country is diametrically opposed to the other in a manner that was last seen before the War of Northern Aggression.

There does not seem be be an acceptable middle ground. I know that we have had differences in the past over issues, but the nation is facing such a huge challenge in the coming years that it is disconcerting that we don't have the required flexibility to meet the challenge.

I have discussed this sense of impending doom with patients and friends and the impression is the same as mine. I don't think that it is being fostered by the news or other sources and many are considering violence as an alternative. If conservatives are thwarted in their efforts in Novemeber, then I feel many will begin to organize in a manner outside of the usual political sphere. For that matter, I wonder what the liberal backlash will be?

With Obama proving to be an abysmal at everything, I feel that the lack of leadership will prove to be more a catalyst.

I know that some will say this is politics as usual, but there seems to be a feeling that things are different and the stakes higher.

Thanks for your commitment and follow up in covering this campaign! This kind of attention will shed the purgative illumination on progressives that this country needs. Out, progressives! Out! Get real jobs, get off my back, keep your guesswork to yourselves, repent and atone for the harm you have done our country!

Thanks again.

Reid should use this slogan:

Sharron Angle is even worse than my record. Re-elect Harry Reid; I can do better.

(Of course, I am for Angle.)

When your own son doesn't want to use his last name in a campaign because it hurts his campaign, it might be a clue that people don't like /a>.
