Sent by a reader who spotted this in south St. Louis, and who assures me “I’m not nearly as fat as my reflection would indicate.”

Once again, I have to warn readers about the occupational hazards of photographing bumper stickers, including the dreaded fun-house mirror syndrome.

The photographer also turned the driver onto this blog.  Thanks!

(The bumper sticker on the window has a silhouette of soldiers marching with rifles and says “If you can’t stand behind them, feel free to stand in front of them!”)

If The Federal Deficit Were A Bumper Sticker

What timing.  Earlier today a reader sent me this photo, which she took in Athens, TN, for my bumper sticker collection:

And moments ago, new deficit numbers were released by the federal government, showing that the annual deficit was $1.294 trillion, the second highest in history (i.e., since last year).  As reported by Bloomberg:

The U.S. government posted its second straight annual budget deficit in excess of $1 trillion as lingering unemployment constrained tax revenue.

The shortfall totaled $1.294 trillion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, second only to the $1.416 trillion deficit in 2009, the Treasury Department said today in Washington.

Laugh and cry.

I was thinking of holding this one back for a special occasion, but I just couldn’t wait.  If the world were to end tomorrow, I would not want you to perish without having seen this.

Sent to me by a reader, this photo was taken in the spring of 2009 at Tysons Corner Center, McLean, VA.  Enlarge and enjoy:

You know the best thing about this?  This guy has gone from having the coolest car in town in the afterglow of Obama’s inauguration, to having the most embarrassing set of wheels in the nation.

Nonetheless, I think I know someone who may be interested in buying it.

The New “Change” Slogan

Photo below sent by a reader in Arlington, VA, which apparently has a large Green Party contingent.

Some of the true believers have recognized that the change thing isn’t working out as people expected.  The old slogans were:

Change We Can Believe In

Change We Need

The new slogan is:

Change Can Be Good!  Really, we mean it!  Ignore your lying eyes!  This is all so unexpected!  It’s Bush’s fault!

Update:  Probably should have titled this post “Change We’re Having Trouble Believing In.”

What Liberal Non-Conformists Are Wearing On Their Bumpers

Last Sunday I highlighted the famed “Coexist” bumper sticker, which seems to be everywhere (at least in Ithaca, Berkeley and Cambridge).

But there are liberal non-conformists out there, who refuse to wear the “Coexist” sticker on their cars just because all their friends are doing it.

Melissa in New Hampshire spotted one such independent spirit in the “Live Free or Die” state, who put the semi-rare “Tolerance” bumper sticker on her car, just to be different:

(I appreciate readers sending me images of bumper stickers, but please do not cut people off, engage in high speed chases, or follow someone home just to get a photo.)

My ‘Coexist’ Bumper Sticker Can Beat Up Your ‘Coexist’ Bumper Sticker

In response to some of my prior bumper sticker posts, readers have wondered why none of the cars had the famed Coexist bumper sticker

So when driving the other day, I had to circle back when I passed this parked car:

Fortunately, the owner did not spot me taking photos, because if he or she did, who knows what would have happened.  Maybe I should put one of these on my car for protection:

Calling All Bumper Sticker Detectives

Spotted in Ithaca this morning.  Quite bold to put such a “Miss me yet?” sticker on your car in these parts of the country, and then to park it on a main road.

Can anyone figure out over what bumper sticker the “Miss me yet?” bumper sticker was pasted?

The first to identify the original gets an all expense paid trip to Disney World paid for by Charlie Crist’s campaign fund:

Update:  The mystery solved, somewhat.  I received an e-mail from the anonymous car owner (who reads this blog), in part as follows:

I was wondering when you’d get around to my collection.

The covered up sticker is one for US Senate from another state. It was given to me as a joke by a son who might be a Democrat, since the candidate is…. I won’t go into more details about the sticker.

I was disappointed that the Miss Me Yet? sticker was so small.

To answer one of your commentators, the Inmate of the Month sticker came about because it seemed that I was always behind a green mini-van, never the same one, that had a sticker bragging that the owner was a proud parent (always singular in Ithaca) of an honor student at such and such school. Nothing wrong with having smart kids, but I wanted to make my own statement and when I saw what I thought was a clever hand made sign on a pickup near Raleigh/Durham NC I copied it, using Chattahoochie (I misspelled it, as Southern isn’t my native tongue) as the jail….

Happy blogging.

Spotted by a reader in Tampa, Florida:

Update 9-15-2010:  Thanks to reader Sylvia for e-mailing me this link to an article about the store (it is in St. Peterburg, not Tampa):

It’s Barack Obama’s 100th day as president of an economically depressed country. It’s Mahmoud’s 169th day as president of Obama Express Food Market, a mini mart in an economically depressed area of St. Petersburg.

Mahmoud had been planning to change his store’s name. He finally did on Nov. 13 when Obama left his U.S. Senate seat to focus on leading the Free World.

The name Food Max just didn’t seem right anymore.

“We like to see change in the world,” says Mahmoud

And also this link about St. Pete cops getting in trouble for getting (and taking) free stuff at the store.

Is it time for a Bumper Stickers from Hell contest?  Would there be a better name for the contest?
