Ron DeSantis, Florida Cabinet Declare CAIR, Muslim Brotherhood, and Antifa as Terrorist Groups

“The designations will also apply to more than 90 organizations already listed as foreign terrorist organizations by the U.S. government, including the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, two Mexican drug cartels and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his cabinet have declared CAIR, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Antifa as terrorist groups, along with a host of others, under a new law that took effect over the summer.

From CBS News:

DeSantis, Florida Cabinet designate more than 90 groups as terrorist organizations

Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet on Tuesday voted to designate more than 90 groups as terrorist organizations, and a legal challenge is already in the works seeking to block the move.

With little comment from the state panel and no public testimony, the Cabinet voted to apply domestic or foreign terrorist designations to a series of groups, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Muslim Brotherhood and antifa.

The designations will also apply to more than 90 organizations already listed as foreign terrorist organizations by the U.S. government, including the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, two Mexican drug cartels and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Under a new law, HB 1471, that took effect July 1, CAIR filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida in Tallahassee, contending that DeSantis is violating the First Amendment and the due process clause of the 14th Amendment.

Hina Shamsi, director of the ACLU National Security Project, said attorneys intend to file a motion Thursday on behalf of CAIR-Florida seeking a preliminary injunction against the designation.

“There is nowhere in that notice any allegation or evidence that CAIR has engaged in any violent or dangerous act in violation of Florida or U.S. law,” Shamsi said Tuesday outside the Cabinet meeting. “And that’s the first requirement for something as serious as this.”

The reaction from the left is exactly what you would expect.

This is from The New Republic:

Ron DeSantis Goes Full Islamophobe With New Terrorist Designation

From here on out, a civil rights group will receive the same treatment in Florida as the likes of Al Qaeda and ISIS.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday the implementation of the “anti-sharia law” he signed earlier this year, officially designating 90 groups as terrorist organizations, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, the largest Muslim advocacy group in the nation.

Florida’s authority on the matter superseded the State Department, which does not list CAIR as a terrorist organization, thanks to a state law (H.B. 1471) that went into effect in July. That allowed Florida’s domestic security chief to officially identify terrorist organizations without the involvement of the federal government.

The state government proceeded with the matter without input from the public.

The Muslim Brotherhood and antifa also received the terror group designation. Other groups targeted by the action include the Venezuelan crime syndicate Tren de Aragua, two Mexican drug cartels, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.

Excellent.

Some common sense, very much needed.

More of this

Much more

About F’g time. Perhaps this is also DeSantis initial salvo in the 2028 presidential race.

Contrary to what Faux News likes to pretend, ANTIFA isn’t an organization. It’s an idea- ANti FAscism. What about opposing fascism does Meatball find so terrifying?

Antifa isn’t a national organization, but there are several local organizations that use that name. It’s my understanding that the KKK of the 20th century was not a national organization either, and each local group was independent.

More to the point, the “antifa” movement is opposed to fascism in the same way that Ibram Kendi’s “anti-racism” movement is opposed to racism, or in the way that the Christian Nationalist movement is Christian. In other words, not at all. In other news, countries with “Democratic” in their names aren’t, and the Holy Roman Empire was none of those things.

Actually, today’s Christian Nationalists are not focused on Race but on Values. So, trashing them as Non-Christian is invalid. Advocating for Christians in government so they treat their fellow Americans with Christian values is not a bad thing.

The movement he started is huge, and constantly in the news, at least here on LI. Only today we had this story about a mandatory “anti-racist” indoctrination course at the University of Maryland.

And his movement is exactly as anti-racist as antifa is anti-fascist and as the Democratic Republic of North Korea is democratic.

Aww, look, some fresh meat has wandered in. You’re in the wrong neighborhood, little leftist. Not that I expect you to actually be able to defend what you write or anything.

ANTIFA is, in fact, organized. It doesn’t have a central command structure, but that’s not required. And its name is irrelevant. Terrorism is violence and intimidation to pursue political or religious goals. Guess what… it fits the definition.

The left’s definition of “fascism” is nothing more than “anything we disagree with.” That’s it. It’s no deeper.

ANTIFA is, in fact, organized. It doesn’t have a central command structure, but that’s not required.

In order to qualify as an “organization”, some sort of organizational structure is in fact required, and that means you can’t designate “antifa” under a law that specifies “organization”.

For instance, even if Antifa were foreign rather than domestic, the Secretary of State could not designate it as a “foreign terorist organization”. He would have to designate individual local groups, each of which would have to be foreign and actually engaged in terrorism, and he’d have to be able to prove it for each one separately.

As for Trump’s so-called “designation” of “antifa” as a “domestic terrorist organization”, that was just a press release of absolutely no legal effect. There is no such category under US law; it just doesn’t exist. US law knows only of foreign terrorist organizations, not domestic ones. But if it did, then he could not designate “antifa” as such, he (or rather the Secretary for Homeland Security) would have to designate each group separately and be prepared to defend that designation in court.

The left’s definition of “fascism” is nothing more than “anything we disagree with.” That’s it. It’s no deeper.

That was already the case by 1944.

“By ‘Fascism’ they mean, roughly speaking, something cruel, unscrupulous, arrogant, obscurantist, anti-liberal and anti-working-class. Except for the relatively small number of Fascist sympathizers, almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’. That is about as near to a definition as this much-abused word has come.”

Bruh …tell you what …you get your antifa pals to:
    1. change their wardrobe out of black (like fascist Mussolini black shirts)
    2. stop concealing their identity behind hoodie/masks and keffiyeh (like terrorists/vandals)
    3. obey basic laws much less engaging in riots
    4. call out and turn in the criminals within their group(s)
    5. stop attempting to use heckler’s veto and/or riot when they don’t get their way
    6. Stop attempting to create ‘autonomous zones’ aka secession

Then we’ll talk. Until then enjoy the show as more and more normies become increasingly frustrated at widespread failure of govt to adhere to social contract by curb stomping criminal/radicals/terrorists and just may choose to act themselves. No whining if/when it comes and normies equally refuse to play by ordinary rules.

The socialists in 1930’s Germany were anti-fascism, but they actually had very much in common with those whom they opposed. The fascist Nazi’s were actually socialists, and were actually the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

Both fascists and communists are on the Left, and both seek government control of everything. The notion that Antifa is somehow advocating for freedom is total bullshit.

It’s an idea that somehow can pull lots of people together to organize pallets of bricks at strategic intersections and call together a mob in black clothing and masks. Sounds like an organization to me.–and a conspiracy to commit criminal acts.

No more “mostly peaceful protests” that end up burning down city blocks and destroying hard-working people’s sweat equity.

Not only is there no basis whatsoever for supposing that he knew, nor any reason why he would have known, but if for some weird reason he had been told he would have been required to keep it secret, and warning Trump would have been a crime.

And no, they were not planning to shoot him. Only a paranoid crazy person thinks they were.

It must be admitted that the MAL raid was very Waco-est. Trump was a former president with a battalion of lawyers. He was not someone the FBI needed to raid or to whom a show of force was required. The raid was unnecessary. Federal agents went to MAL loaded for bear, with aggression, and swept Trump’s legal team aside. We also now know that internally higher-ups were being told that what they were doing was ill-advised and potentially illegal. Their objective was never the “classified documents,” it was, at best, political theater, at worst, the intent was to cause an incident. Just like the feds could have arrested David Koresh away from his compound while on his daily jog, but instead opted for a paramilitary assault on a group they knew to be heavily armed, Trump’s documents situation could have been resolved without armed agents invading MAL.

Whether you like it or not Trump isn’t king. He’s not entitled to power, he has to EARN it. That means running for president against competition. That’s how the system works, and if losers like you are going to get pissy about it then perhaps you should move to a country where they don’t bother with such things… like North Korea.

Even if true (and I doubt it), what has that got to do with DeSantis?

they were willing to force their way in regardless of who was stopping them, including the President

Of course they were; that’s true of any police raid. No police ever say “Well, our mission today is to serve this warrant, but only if the subjects agree; if they don’t like it we’ll just go home and leave them alone.” That is very different from your insane and defamatory claim.

Can you please enlighten the rest of us how:
      1. you have direct confirmation that anyone outside the raid team knew when the op would take place?
      2. anyone owed a Trump a duty to be informed?
      3. you know the plan was to shoot Trump (presumably murder then cover it up) during the op? Why didn’t they?

Finally DeSantis said he wouldn’t run for President in 2020. As you no doubt recall he didn’t, instead he ran in 2024. If we’re gonna hold DeSantis to a kind of unending promise there’s a whole bunch of things Trump should be called out for failing to do and several for doing what he said he wouldn’t. Work through the list of those then get back to us about DeSantis.

CAIR will challenge the designation in court, and will probably win. The FL government can’t prove that CAIR engages in terrorist activities as defined in the statute.

25 years ago the federal government couldn’t even find evidence that CAIR provided material support to Hamas; that’s why it wasn’t indicted together with the Holyland Foundation, which provably was doing so and was therefore charged and convicted.

Good.

September 20, 2001, before the fires were even out, the dust settled, and the dead and missing all identified: “Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” President George W. Bush.

Too many have forgotten or wish others to forget. Enablers, fence sitters, finger waggers, and myriad other scolds from, congressional representatives, governors, and mayors to other scurrying and skulking global and neighborhood gadabouts and influencers need to choose – there is no middle ground here. See October 7, 2023 for additional details.

Good.

They are.

Whatever. CAIR is running to the courts and some liberal activist judge will predictably side with them and overturn the terrorist organization designation and will issue an injunction preventing the law from being enforced or acted upon. Guaranteed.

All of Islam should be declared a terrorist organization. The bad Muslims are tolerated by the good Muslims who never do anything against the. Bad Muslims. How many good Muslims are supporting Israel as they deal with the evil Hamas? They support the evil Muslims because they know that the terrorists are true Muslims.

All of Islam should be declared a terrorist organization.

That would be directly contrary to the US constitution, and would make the law under which such a declaration was made unconstitutional.

Also, Islam is not an organization. As should be obvious from the fact that so many wars have been fought between Moslems. It was an organization when Mohammed ran it, but not for long after he died.

I am not sure CAIR is a terrorist organization. They are definitely a funder and enabler of terrorist organizations.
They also found out that shady organizations should not sue for defamation. During the discovery phase of the litigation CAIR had to provide lots of documents and information that showed how they helped terroist organizations.

If that were definitely true, then it would have been indicted together with the Holyland Foundation, about 25 years ago. The reason it wasn’t indicted is because the US Attorney couldn’t find convincing evidence for this.
