Mollie Hemingway: AI Hysteria is About ‘Regulatory Capture’ and Control

“They want to make sure they have control for a post-Trump environment, so they can engage in ongoing censorship and control, and keep anybody else out for decades to come.”

In case you haven’t noticed, multiple Democrats are now inciting panic about artificial intelligence, suggesting that regulation is needed or we’re all going to die. Trump is already questioning China’s role in the hype.

On FOX News Sunday, Mollie Hemingway of the Federalist reminded viewers that many people at the top of the AI industry are politically aligned with Democrats and suggested much of this is about control.

Transcript via Real Clear Politics:

SHANNON BREAM: Dario Amodei worries about the takeover of the internet by these AI agents. But he talks about China: “If we greatly restrain our AI capabilities in the belief China will do the same, and then China defects, A.I. could be so powerful that such a defection could lead to their geopolitical dominance.” How do you measure these imbalances?

MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: First of all, Dario Amodei runs an AI company, but if he really believes these things, he has complete control.

SHANNON BREAM: That is what David Sacks, Just do it, you run the company, do it.

MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: It is an issue of our common Washington, D.C. People seek regulatory capture. You’ve made it to the top of the heap, and you want to keep everybody else out by regulating so the smaller competition companies cannot rise.

So this is particularly concerning for this particular issue because these six or seven top AI oligarchs are all massively aligned with the Democratic Party, the left. They want to make sure they have control for a post-Trump environment, so they can engage in ongoing censorship and control, and keep anybody else out for decades to come.

So it is totally legitimate to be concerned about AI. I myself am as well. But when you see a massive op like this going on, you have to wonder about precisely the motivation.

Watch the clip:

Chuck Schumer is already trying to use this as a wedge issue for the midterms.

That alone should raise red flags.

John D. Rockefeller call your office.

Rockefeller would be jealous of how the modern pseudo-monopolies (ab)use government regulation.

Politicians get to claim that they’re doing something about big corrupt companies, and those same companies get a towering barrier to competition that they’re happy to float the cost of compliance for.

“Now why didn’t I think of that?”

Molly is the best!

She’s not just smart she’s a very effective communicator b/c she’s able to convey complex issues free of jargon in an easy to understand way for ordinary folks.

This was obvious from the start. Already established business players don’t ask “Regulate me harder, daddy” unless they see that the regulation will give them a competitive advantage. That Jacob Coxon character was a plant/crisis actor. He was put in a place from which he could then “reveal” the dangers of AI. It’s the Hegelian dialectic at work.

Remember when Amazon was all for no internet sales taxes, then changed thier tune when they were a big company with real competition?

“these six or seven top AI oligarchs are all massively aligned with the Democratic Party, the left.”

For the life of me, I’d really like to understand how this always happens.

The best explanation I can proffer is virtue-signaling, and guilt. Being a billionaire/tech magnate/other industry magnate who supports leftist/Dhimmi-crat/”progressive” causes marks you as allegedly magnanimous, “enlightened,” and one of the “good guys.” That’s the virtue-signaling side.

The guilt aspect of it creates reasoning that, if a billionaire is a leftist/Dhimmi-crat, he/she need not feel guilty about his/her wealth, because he/she is supporting allegedly noble, righteous and “progressive” causes that help the unwashed masses/peasants of the proletariat.

See Warren Buffett, who shamelessly prostituted himself on the vile Obama’s behalf, despite Obama’s fiscally illiterate and neo-communist anti-business, anti-free market, pro-onerous taxation, anti-collective prosperity agenda.

See Lauren Powell Jobs, Steve Jobs’s widow, who generously funds the money-losing “The Atlantic” Dhimmi-crat toilet paper/propaganda rag, among myriad other Dhimmi-crat causes.

To name only two of myriad examples.

Regulation ALWAYS favors Big Biz. That’s why it’s absurd for Democrats to claim they’re the champions of “the little guy” when they never miss a chance to regulate the crap out of everything.

I’d prefer to characterize this as ‘the current AI hysteria’ is absolutely a con. Its a transparent attempt by larger established companies to use regulation to build a moat around their companies to stifle competition. There’s plenty of legitimate criticism of AI and data centers along with the headlong rush trampling on liberties, misusing eminent domain to build out a!omg other concerns. Sanders and rest are seeking to use those legitimate criticisms/concerns as a springboard to hurriedly pass ill advised legislation that not coincidentally seems to benefit many of their largest donors and ideological allies.

If Bernie Sanders and the rest are so fired up to pass legislation to do ‘something or we all die’ …then they can get on a plane to Beijing and only come back when the CHICOMs have not only agreed to do the same but have agreed to hand over a verifiable ‘kill switch’ to ensure their cooperation. Let Bernie and rest put up a $10 Trillion bond to be forfeited at the first inkling the CHICOM are gonna backslide and violate the terms. Somehow I suspect Sen Sanders and the rest won’t be nearly so certain of their claims with those additional conditions.

I just do not know. I suspect SOMETHING is going on. Why? Because I heard that certain wealthy AI insiders have bought islands in preparation for an AI apocalypse, and my very first thought was uh, oh……

The agenda behind panic porn is never in our best interest.

Love me some Mollie

Anytime you have businesses advocating that they be regulated it is for the purpose of limiting competition and maintaining near monopoly control of an industry.

The fact that the wretched, utterly wicked narcissist-incompetent-dunce, “Barry” Hussein Obama, is now on the campaign stump, loudly banging his “A.I. is a threat” drum — with generous and gleeful Narrative(TM) amplification assistance provided by the equally vile, still-nauseatingly Obama-deifying Dhimmi-crat media organs — tells you everything you need to know about how utterly contrived, fallacious, maliciously sabotaging and subversive this anti-A.I./data center effort is.

The Islamo-Marxist Dhimmi-crats always need a contrived and manufactured “crisis,” “threat” and “enemy” to distract voters from the abject wickedness and destructiveness of their cancerous agenda and policy proposals. Anything to distract from the existential threat posed by Islamo-Marxism and its evil, goose-stepping fanatic-adherents.

Let me know when an A.I. system begins killing people in numbers approaching the insane, collective death toll wrought by communists and Muslims, in the 20th and 21st centuries. Let’s focus on the existential and obvious threat that’s right in front of us.
