Israel Captures Hezbollah’s Main Terror Command Center in South Lebanon
Reuters: Iran had threatened a “large-scale attack if Israel launches offensive on Ali al-Taher ridge.”
After weeks of intense fighting, the Israeli military has captured Hezbollah’s main stronghold in southern Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday evening announced that it has “completed the clearing of Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure in the Ali al-Taher Ridge area and is operating to neutralize it.”
Describing the operation as “ongoing,” the military said that it now controls the strategic high ground. “The soldiers achieved operational control of the ridge area, both above and below ground, and cleared the area of terrorists,” the IDF said in a press release. “Some of the terrorists were eliminated, while others fled the area.”

The Ali al-Taher ridge tunnel complex, located around 10 miles from the Israeli border, is considered Hezbollah’s “nerve center” in southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli think tank Alma, it is “a major center of power that Hezbollah invested significant efforts over time to preserve and defend.”

The subterranean fortress, built with Iranian expertise, served as the headquarters of Hezbollah’s Badr Unit, its main terrorist formation in southern Lebanon. “The underground infrastructure sites contained command centers, weapons storage rooms, … which enabled the terrorists to manage combat and remain underground for extended periods of time,” the IDF added. “The infrastructure is a strategic underground network that was built over two decades and funded and planned by the Iranian terror regime.”
Iran had threatened a “large-scale attack” if Israel dismantled the Ali al-Taher ridge terror complex. “Iran has warned the United States that it would respond forcefully to an Israeli offensive on a mountainous ridge in southern Lebanon where Iranian military personnel are holed up alongside Hezbollah fighters,” Reuters reported, quoting officials.
According to Israel’s Channel 14, the operation successfully killed Iranian instructors alongside Hezbollah terrorists. The IDF did not verify the claim.

The decisive victory was won after months of sustained fighting against Hezbollah. In late May, Israeli troops captured the Crusader-era fortress of Beaufort overlooking the ridge. “The Ali al-Taher ridge … has become one of the most contested pieces of ground in the Israel-Hezbollah war,” Reuters noted on Thursday. The “ridge has a commanding view” of the area, providing a strategic site to launch cross-border aerial and artillery attacks.
The fall of the Hezbollah stronghold is a major milestone in Israel’s war against Hamas and other Iranian terror proxies, which began more than 1,000 days ago on October 7, 2023.
“For more than a thousand days, the State of Israel has been engaged in a prolonged, unprecedented, and multi-front campaign for our existence and our homeland,” IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, said in an address on Thursday. “Throughout the war, we have severely damaged the capabilities of all our enemies—each individually and all of them together.”
Under the new doctrine adopted after the October 7 massacre, the military seeks to dismantle terrorist capabilities before they become a threat. “We have fundamentally changed our security doctrine—there is no ignoring and no containment; there is the removal of threats before they materialize,” he assured. “We are engaged in a continuous process of learning, drawing lessons and implementing them.”

The technology is insane. The special Israeli units can detect warm air behind a wall and see the heat left by footsteps on the floor or handprints on the walls. They have learned the hard way. But, they have learned to clear tunnels and underground centers in ways that no one ever thought of before.
Basically the Israelis helped hezbollah flush millions of Iranian funds down the toilet. And now that Sec Bessent is going after the banks enabling this type of terrorist funding there is no way to replace it. Lebanon supports the IDF efforts to rid their country of this Iranian scourge. Iran launches attacks and they can kiss Kharg goodbye.
